Esoteric K-01X DEMO

hi, very new to this site, but i think it's great,

any-way i had a demo of an K-01X last week in sunny England not many dealers here, i play CD & SACD, the sound was outstanding,as it was a demo the dealer wanted to show me streaming as well showing me all of the inputs ect, as i probably be doing some of this in a year or two,flicking through the manual it did seem pretty basic, and as nearly three hour's flew by, there really was to much to take in at the time, great demo though,played lot's of cd music,

questions are, playing cd's, can i change the filter's and the sampling, or is this just for streaming, also if i can what filters and sampling are you sharky's using when playing cd's and sacd's thanks andy:S

Thanks. Esoteric is a terrific brand. Love the K-01x. We don't see a lot of requests for "spinners" here. Mostly Lumin's, Aurender's and DAC's. People here, for the most part, have really taken to ripping their CD's to a NAS drive, downloading music from hdtracks.com and other sites and using an ipad to put together play lists and such. They love the integration of Tidal with the likes of Lumin and Aurender too.

Andy.......I have the Esoteric K-03, in fact I have two of them and think they are spectacular performers. Yes, the up-conversion and the filter selections can be applied to the transport, as well as each DAC input individually. You can set each input up independent of the other inputs if that is your desire.

Your new Esoteric K-03x will need 300+ hours of break-in, so during that time I suggest you sample all the up-conversion and filter settings.
 
thanks, what settings do you use when playing cd ?

Andy.......I have listened extensively to all the K-03 up-conversion settings, including the DSD setting. I have settled on the 2Fs setting and the filter setting of S_DLY1. On occasion I will change the settings just to sample the playback alternatives. I have found that I like the ORG (original) setting with no up-conversion on some recordings. That is why I suggested you take some time and visit all of the settings in up-conversion and filters. My choice may not be yours.
 
thanks for that, i have ordered the K-01X, i think it will match my Spectral/ Wilson , set up very nicely, it's a pity you can't change the filters and settings by the remote, it should be here by the weekend,
 
I have the K-03X and spin exclusively -- no streaming, never ripped anything but my trousers.

I started with 8Fs and SDLY2, then when 'au natural' with ORG/OFF, and have now settled on 8Fs and FIR1. This is for mostly classical and acoustic jazz.

You'll find a few threads on various forums about Esoteric settings, and no consensus. It's what you like that matters.

But as mentioned (and as they state in Owner's Manual), each setting requires 300 hrs break-in.
