Esoteric announce Grandioso N1T network transport

So I installed the update this morning (what an esoteric process) and while I like the new features (my N1 now shows that it is connected to the PS1 power supply in the display, a nice touch) it doesn't recognise the attached HDD with my stored music in the Soundstream app.

This is a big issue as for the last week I decided to try out the N1 as a server/streamer over using Roon and I was shocked at how much better it sounded. Switching back to Roon (via RAAT mode) confirms it is weaker sonically, sounded thicker and veiled by comparison, even if it is a superior music management app in every metric.

Any suggestions?

If the I/F update has broken attached storage playback Esoteric needs to know about it (via the dealer/distributor channel).

The firmware release notes were not very detailed, but this is what is addressed in the latest release:

The ESOTERIC I/F Firmware V1.20 mainly provides improvements to network functions and compatibility. The update includes single-track repeat playback support, QQ Music display support, and general performance improvements with minor bug fixes. The QQ Music display feature is primarily relevant for users of the QQ Music service, which is mainly available in the Chinese market. However, the firmware itself is not limited to that region, as it also includes general improvements for the system.

Okay, in order to confirm whether the issue of the Soundstream app not recognising the attached HDD was a fault of the new software update or an issue with the HDD I decided to buy a new 2TB portable drive, copy over my music library (took 6hrs!) and hook it up.

After restarting the N1 lo-and-behold, success! I guess the old HDD was getting long-in-the-tooth. It's now sitting attached to my PC as a second back-up of my precious music library.

Currently playing the new Neurosis album on headphones while my gorgeous nine-day-old daughter sleeps.

Life's pretty good.

Congrats. Daughters are awesome! You’ll now get acquainted to the pink section of the stores.
