So far, I kind of like Wichita. Old Town is very nice! We live on the west side, Goddard. It is expanding at a tremendous rate on the west side here. Construction going on everywhere you look.

Aerospace... a lot of that here. Aviation capital of the world :). Lear Jet, Cesana, Beechcraft, etc., etc.

Sounds like the perfect excuse to build a new system. Lol

I got down to an integrated - it was wonderful. Then I got GAS and … well let’s just say it was fun and I enjoyed the journeys of having a complicated system to simple back to complicated. Somewhere in the middle I ended up w 2 systems since I had too much gear. I’m hopeless. Haha

I actually may have a console system built for me from a furniture guy. Possibly with a built in horn speaker. I have a contact who can design the throat and such using a 8 inch.
 
We did the opposite a couple of years ago, when we retired. We moved up to Seattle from Mobile, AL. We grew up in Texas, and had a beach condo in the Florida Panhandle. We moved to be with our daughter, and to provide babysitting 2-3 days a week.

After a life on the Gulf Coast, the Seattle weather has been pleasant to us. I mean “extreme heat warning” for a high of 75! Also, they call it rain, but it’s more of a mist. I’d like these people to experience the daily afternoon thunderstorms in August, into September, along the southern coast. It did get cold, and snow the first winter, but we have accommodated, and have proper clothing. It helps that we don’t have to get in to work.

My southern boy political views are not in vogue here, bit it’s easy enough to not talk politics, and some of my friends are conservative. Lucky for my daughter we can afford to live here. I don’t drive much. (1 year service on our new, and only, car showed 3.5k miles) Gas prices are insane here.

System wise, I am fairly lucky to have a rather big room, and kept my separates. I built a new rack, and am building new DIY Aleph J monoblocks. I am awaiting my extravagant purchase of some new speakers, due in a month or so. Details later. Back when I was worried about room size, I was considering an integrated amp, the Dartzeel CTH 8550. That concept was crashed by whatever changes are going on at Dartzeel. Currently loving the tubed preamp and solid state amps. Looking forward to trying out the class A amps as the weather cools here.

It is great weather here for 9 months. I would like a warm weather place for 3 months.

Just cut a good piece of grass for the winter trim. Were due a week of rain. Grass is 4 feet tall and needs to be set short for winter.

I always thought Seattle would be a wonderful place for us. Much closer to some of our kids, but then again there is no way of being close to all of them... 2 on Central Coast California, 2 in Wenatchee Washington and 1 here in Wichita. I believe that it might be a bit pricier than we have gotten used to in Wichita though.

The weather in Wichita is not terrible. Winter has a couple weeks of real cold, and then semi-cold for most of winter. Usually one of two snowstorms. It cracks me up when people ask what I think of their winters. I usually reply that you guys don't know winter. I grew up in upstate New York... lots and lots of snow (4"-5" versus 150"+). The summers get pretty hot. This year has been brutal. It has been 100+ for over a month now. Simply crazy, and no, this is not normal, much warmer than usual from what I have heard and seen the past couple years.

Croatia on the Adriatic coast. Simply a wonderful country and the people are fantastic. Noel reminded me that Sicily was on the short list too. We have about 6 years to figure it out. Our adult children are all over the globe. Oldest and his wife are research Scientist at Notre Dame, Youngest son is a teacher in Japan and our daughter and her fiancé are in Dallas but plan to open restaurants on the East Coast? None of them want children so unless that changes the world is our oyster.
 
Daughter/grand daughter here in Seattle. They needed the help, and Seattle/PNW is a new adventure, climate, culture to explore for us.

One son in Houston (and most of my family) just went there for my Mom’s 90th.

Youngest son is in Sweden, getting a PhD in computer science. Single, he comes here 1-2 times a year. We will go visit him in the near future.

I had a chance to visit the coast of Washington State and the Oregon coast in July. Even spent some time with Jock (The Professor). It’s such a beautiful area. That area, along with Montana and Wyoming were stunning. I think that area in Washington State just across from Canada, with the water and mountains sure was pretty. It was great to escape the heat in those parts.

Wish him luck with his PhD in CS, field is like a desert right now. Several of my sons friends earned their PhD in CS last year and are still under or unemployed (thanks AI). Cole has his PhD in Biomolecular Chemical Engineering and El has her PhD in EE. My mother will be 90 next summer she still drives and lives alone don in Destin.... she is thinking of Moving to TN to near her sister. Sweden is awesome.
 
I have a friend getting her citizenship in Croatia. If you don't, real estate is less attractive. You may have to leave after 6 weeks. Not sure. Thats mostly the case with Italy.
