Emotiva Stealth 8” powered airmotiv™ studio monitors bi-amplified, 200 + 200 wpc ? ....

I currently own a XPA-5 and Ultra Sub 12 and have owned a UMC-1 and ERC-1. I also put together a nice office system for my dad consisting of a USP-1 and UPA-2 with a pair of Monitor RX-1 speakers. With a few exceptions, they do make some great bang for the buck components and I believe that the Stealth Airmotiv series is no different.

Sorry, I've never heard them. But I is hard to imagine why you would want or need 200 watts available to the tweeter. That is a very strange design element. In most home environments tweeters dissipate milliwatts and even in a pro audio application you would expect no more than a watt or two. It is woofers that need most of the power. I find that is odd enough that it would concern me. I prefer to understand why a product is designed the way it is and feel comfortable with it. This one doesn't make sense to me.
 
No feelings on Emotiva one way or the other myself. Nice folks at Emotiva though, I've met a few of them. I think they are a good deal for the price even though it's all made in China, but developed in the US. (That's the case for many a manufacture though, even a number of the "high-end" ones).
I have not heard the speakers, but I would like to put them up against my KRKs just to see. Judging by description they may sound very close to one another although ribbon tweeters tend to be on the shrill side depending on design.
 
Heil tweets are not typical ribbons, they are air motion transformers. very very fast.
 
Could be fun! Maybe when the dual 8's aka stealth 88 is available :) I'll give it a try.

Ah yes, I forgot about the Heils. I didn't know they were Heil ribbon tweets. Those are used in the Golden Ear Titan speakers as well and they are not bad at all, in fact, pretty smooth. At first look the Emotivas look just like the Behringer studio speakers which are horrible to my ears.
Now I really want to hear these Emotivas.
 
Yup, the only thing is that unlike mine, those run monopole…mine run open baffle DIPOLE, like my moniker picture….

Is seems the 88's have been postponed for a while. The 8's already go down to around 30hz, probably won't pick up a lot more from the second woofer. It looks like it could be a while though for either to try.

Probably for cost reasons. Its maybe more of an economies of scale thing to have many of the same 200wpc plate amps ordered for LF and HF, than to have 2 bespoke amp designs at say 200wpc and the other 40wpc. then they would have to be tested to have the same rise times, slew rates and all those techie terms. Just simpler and cheaper to double down and waste the extra power!

Maybe. I would put my money on marketing, though.
