ok, pardon my ignorance, I am not a videophile (not even close). I own less than 100 (more like 50) movies on both DVD and Blu-Ray. I would like to be able to rip these to my 24TB NAS and then be able to access the movies from any TV in my house. Is this even possible? Is it an arduous task? Is putting my Blu Ray's on my NAS a challenging process due to copy protection? What would be required - equipment wise, software wise?

I do have a Blu-Ray player/burner for my Mac. I only have Mac computers that I would want to use for this purpose.

Is this where that Apple TV comes in handy or are there better devices?

Quite pssible and you have plenty of storage space for it.

Apple tv won't cut it for BD but could probably be fineggled to handle the dvdrips in some capacity.

I just purchased a portable BluRay player with the intention to rip some movies to NAS. Last time I did some research I did not find any ripping software on the Mac, all was for Windows. But I have Parallels and haven't had a problem running any Windows specific software on it.

This site is terrific and very informative for these types of projects.

Which Media Player would you be using? As E said, don't think AppleTv will cut it. Apple and BluRay are generally incompatible.:(

I half wonder if its worth it. I sure wish it was a 1-2-3 step process.

I started thinking about it because we have a few spots we regularly watch movies, and it's a pain schlepping the DVD/Blu holder when we want to watch something.

If I figure out a workflow I'll let you know.

Cool! Thanks.

Here I go; resurrecting another dead thread. But I was just checking around, to see if you guys had a Video streaming presence; when I came across this thread.

You now have a streamer in the Tank fellas! :)

Mike, with my dedicated Windows 7 PC using DVDFab it's just sticking the Blu-Ray or DVD in and hit the rip button. Just that simple. I use JRiver Media Center v19 to watch my ripped movies. Media server with a highend video card out performs any blu-ray palyer! I currently have over 10TB of movies.

OK; we have 2 streamers in da house! Though to be fair...my array, is at ~15T and climbing ;)

(of course...that also includes, my VERY large DSD collection)
