I love hearing folks bring up Apogee. I used to love hearing their large ones at my buddy's store back in the 90's. We would take road trips up to Boston to the 'factory' and hear them up there. They are still to this day one of the only ribbons I've really enjoyed.
I need to get back down to FL to listen to MIke's Horn set up! My original 'must have someday' speakers were the Klipschhorns. I remember my first ever dealer in 69 having Paul Klipsch in and I actually got to talk to him while they played the corner horns with Crown and Phase Linear gear and also tube gear. That's when I realized I had to own tubes someday and did just a few years later. I turned one of my HS friend onto audio and he was able to afford the Heresy's, but I never fell in love with that sound and was turned off of horns. I know they've changed a TON, so I'll keep an open mind as I always try to.
I go back to dynamic speaker and I've been fortunate to hear so many of the top lines in the world. I find most of the behemoth's way too large and not as musical as some of the smaller boxes. (relatively speaking).
I love the Tidal's when I have heard them at Doug's (the importer). He really has a great set up in an old converted garage/breezeway.
That said, the Vandersteen 7 mk 2 is still my favorite speaker of all time. It does everyt8ing I want a speaker to do and it has plenty of scale in a smaller package. I need to hear the 9 subs with it as that will fix any bass problems a room would ever have and also allow the system to move more air so it will fill up the largest of rooms. I love the idea of a swarmed sub system (4 or more to even things out) and will eventually get Vandersteen subs for my Quatro's is he ever comes out with matching subs, lol....
Mike, I just got a pair of balanced Audioquest Horizon (WEL) solid silver interconnects installed and it's taken my system to a level I've only dreamed about. It is easily a component upgrade as even the wife asked what I purchased as she didn't see anything new. When I told her, she thought I was lying to her. Also installed a Diamond USB cable. That or the TotalDac cable are my favorite ones so far.
Sorry, Vandersteen 7 mk 2 for this guy. Some cool speakers mentioned in this thread. Nice taste folks.
