i been thinking in a different direction as of late. and i have not heard much of coincident lately.
so whats been going through my head was really efficeint speakers, ribbon tweeters, 300b amps. then i saw the 211 amps as well. i owned coincident victory several years ago and i loved them. not the best speaker out of the bunch i had brought in and out of my system. even the coincident super eclipse were a little better. but something about them made me want them back when i sold them.
i think its the ribbons . all this talk of raidhos and their tweeters made me think of these. and after a search i found out they are still around and several new versions.
the frankensteins and the total victory 5 (95db) would be a great match!! as would the dragon:exciting:
the msrp on the 300b's are $5995
dragon $10995
and total victory 5's- $15995

Oh I had a question in there I forgot. Lol . Does anyone think I can run 300b's worth the venere 3.0's?? Their sensitivity is around 90 or 91 I believe

I think that Coincident makes a wonderful sounding speaker, as a matter of fact put any nice tube amp on the C's and to me it competes with anything at any price.

Small maybe 12 x 20 or 22.
I haven't run anything in here except monitors yet.
I agree the 2 pairs of coincident I owned in the past
We're both awesome speakers. At a good price

Ya never know until you hook it up, but I do NOT think that you will "light up" the speakers with the 300B. You will get a beautiful sound, with gorgeous midrange and a super soundstage etc. Probably a little shy on the bass compared to if you put on 50 watt tube amps. I'm just guessing but I have played around a LOT with SET and 90dbish speakers and I am always satisfied with the sound UNTIL I try a more powerful amp on the speakers and then I realize that I'm not getting everything out of the speaker that is possible....but ya gotta love the midrange. Sorry, not really much help, wish I had more definitive information.

That helps some , thanks. I'm running 100w snappers now. But always loved the depth and definition and huge stage of 300b's and yet I've never owned any.

If it was me I would keep the snappers if I could and get the 300B. It's so nice to switch off. If you get rid of the snappers (which I think are great amps) and you get the 300B, then you will wish you still had the snappers. BUT if you keep the snappers just sitting there you will be able to enjoy the 300B more, not wondering if you should have more power. You would have it if you wanted it, but I bet you would get hooked on the 300B. Although 90dbish is pushing it for a 8-10 watts. It really becomes a personal preference - liking or not liking type situation because it will work, it's not going to distort all that much, it just won't really drive the speakers. I've noticed that although the C's are efficient they sound pretty good when you give them some power. I love the snapper/C combination, I've heard it several times when Manley and C used to show together. I always liked the sound in their room as well as any other system that I heard at the shows.....seriously good to me, I was always amazed at their sound.

+1 I think this is spot on Steve. Those Snappers with the EL34's should have that great midrange and the power to light up many speakers.

Let me throw this at you:

Manley Neo-Classic 300B Preamp (more tubey goodness)

+1- that would be something the NC with the snappers...wow. You could run that with most speakers and it would sound great.

Oh the snappers and the hovland are both keepers IMO . None of them are going anywhere.
I've already run a couple phono pre's through the hovland and neither match the mc step up inside. I'm still trying though .im going to have to spend some serious money to beat it. Lol. Snappers are exactly what I want in my amps. And they're really cool looking.
I'm looking for something different. And I plan on running 2 different speakers. So I was thinking something like snappers/ magico s1. ..... Venere 3.0/ 18w 300 b's.
Or something similar. I love that manley Neo classic!!!!
I want to set my table up with a second cartridge being mono/300b's/ efficient speakers.
old school style. Maybe an spu... Lol.

The S1's are not terribly efficient. Might be a stretch for the snappers.

FWIW - first, find the speakers you love the most and then the amps best suited to drive them within your budget. Matching brand preamp is a good approach, but not a requirement.

S1's are very impressive and truly full range. C1.1's are fantastic too. If you listen to rock mostly - go S1's. Classical, Jazz and vocals - C1.1's.

Most importantly - do your own listening. You may fall in love with Wilson, Sonus Faber, Vienna, Revel or any number of amazing brands. There is no right or wrong. Just personal preference based limited only by budget.

Budgets can be stretched for the right thing. Lmao!!!!
Anyway I'm real busy for the next few weeks. Then I need some work done on my vehicle (yes i drive a piece of crap) lol!!
After that I'm driving all over for the fall and winter and listening to everything I can.
I like going to NYC , but I hate going alot. Lol.(more than twice a year) But there is so much gear to hear there I'm going to have to take several rides there. And deal with some hard to deal with stereo stores.
But yes I hear you mike . I've went and listened alot more this summer than I have in a few years. But so far nothing has jumped out at me, that I could afford! I have been able to cross several thing off my list.
Thx!!

Steve, I just don't think you're going to get the sound you want out of the Venere 3.0 and an 18w 300B amp, but what do I know! That's a combo that you should definitely hear before committing to.

On another note, do you have the JJ tubes (listed in your sig.) in your Snappers right now?

+1 especially "That's a combo that you should definitely hear before committing to." You may love it or NOT.

Yea jj tubes. Snappers came with 3 sets. Jj's , groove tubes and the stock ones.
Jj's sounded the best. But they are not broken in yet. They and the grooves were brand new.But the sound right now is very quiet.
Oh that's because I have no speakers!!!! Lmao!!!
This is the future of my system Doug .
The veneres are going to be kinda like my yard dogs. They will be in and out of my system.
Now they will be my only speaker. But in a few months I will buy some 2 ways. Not 100% sure which but I love 2 ways and hate not having monitors around.
Right now I'm working on power and acoustics .
After that its a couple headshells and cartridges and an external phonostage.
At that point ill have 3 cartridges, 2 phonostages and 2 pairs speakers.
Then ill be looking at a pair of 300b's and effiecient speakers . The veneres will be a temp on the 300b's .just for fun and until I talk Joe out of his cornwalls. Lmao!!! But just think of the selection and options I would have at that point.
And it's all at a reasonable price except for a few items I will splurge on(2 ways,1 cartridge, phonostage) and the veneres at their awesome price will be around forever once I get em.
For me it's more about being able to switch things up. Since I can't afford 5 turntables this is a way I can do it for a decent price. Lol. I just need to figure out which gear fits into those categories. I always have a plan. I just never stick to it

That sounds like a plan that will be a lot of fun to put together! Now the Cornwalls and a 300B I could see. Just make Joe an offer he can't refuse! Maybe if you get over to his place you could put his cartridge on his tt and he would give you the Cornwalls, LOL!

The reason I ask about the tubes is because I find JJ's to be a forward sounding tube. I know you were thinking about Tung-Sols, which I think have a more linear and musical flavor to them. They might be a real nice tube to try in the Snappers. Of course, diff'rent strokes right?!!!

I'm not married to the jj's, they were free. Lol. The tung sols have been recommended by 2 people now. Ill have to try em. New stock el's are relatively cheap to try different kinds.
Having to buy 8 nos el's would not be so cheap. Lol.
Thanks for the help!!!!
