Dragon and frankenstein

Lol. You heard that over your new gear?
Yea I want the most efficient speakers I can find for low watt tube amps.
Ill start bugging you about them soon. Lol!! Aren't they like 1000db . Hahaha!!

They are pretty light. I can move them up and down in their boxes no problem.

Steve,

I was thinking about it and really for any 300B amp, to be able to really appreciate the sound that it can produce you need HIGH efficiency speakers, like the Cornwalls or horns, AT LEAST 95db and preferably 100dbish. Then the 300B can be relaxed and do it's magic act.

You can get SET's to work on 90dbish loads in small rooms on certain music, but it's not right. For 90db speakers you should be using more like 50watt tube amps etc.

+1

Any suggestions on speakers for him?

Actually no, there was a list here in some thread that gave a pretty decent list of available high efficiency speakers. It's like the regular stuff as you know, you just have to go and listen for yourself and see what speaker "speaks to you" - no matter what anyone else or any review says. The problem is finding high efficiency speakers to demo is much harder to find than the regular offerings. It's a tough one. Best is to just research it out and then somehow figure out how to hear them. I do know that you can stumble upon some nice "not so big" really efficient speakers that don't cost all that much and then when you connect a good SET amp to them it can be pretty magical for not too much $$$.

I'm always looking for good speakers for SET's as I do the Kondo and Absolare thing. For the low powered Kondo SET's horns are always the obvious answer. Audio Note UK, which I don't have anything to do with (I just do the Audio Note Japan- Kondo products) have some nice high efficiency speakers that a lot of people love. The Absolare 52 Watt SET's and the Kondo Kagura 55 Watt SET's are expensive but change the game a little as they can drive 88+ efficient type speakers, depending on the speakers.

If I think of anything I will report back.....

If it were me I would try and wrestle those Cornwalls from Joe, or find another pair. With a 300B it would make great sound and be fun too....for not much $$$ either.

Steve,

You will be amazed how the Snappers will light up the Cornwalls. It's not too much power, it's the quality of the power that they crave. Sweet EL34's on Cornwalls will be stunning.

Hahaha @ 102db sensitive I would be looking for about 18w monoblocks too run.
Like the dragons. There a ton of choices for 300b's used in the $2500-3500
Range.
Snappers ran my 87db kefs with no problem and i could pump them up more than i ever wanted. so Im Sure they will be fine as I'm leaning toward those c1.1's
I need to have monitors around and I can't afford Joes Tad's. lol

The C1.1's would be crazy good with the snappers for me. I love tubes on my D1's.

We all got "tangled up in blue" here:0) Steve originally asked about "what speakers would work with a 300B type amp". I think we all concluded that the more efficient the better.

Steve has Snappers and is aware that they will drive all kinds of speakers, but that wasn't what he was asking. Just wanted to clarify. It was what would be good speakers for 300B, usually pushing about 8-10 Watts/channel.

Steve, what about a couple of these beauties? 8 watts Class A output. 90db speakers or higher recommended.
