Do we have any female audiophile members?

I asked some of my wifes friends, they said it was boring to just set around listening to music mostly by yourself. They would rather go to the beach, go kayaking, go shopping together the key is doing stuff together even play golf.. Also mentioned was that the men in this hobby all seem rather stuffy, straggly and the ones that are old are rather grumpy. I said, wow honey thanks.

I believe she nailed it perfectly !

I say she is pretty observant.

This is always an interesting topic. I have known only three women in my life that have had a healthy interest in audio, could sit for hours enjoying music, and owned good quality audio equipment. All three were single women living in their own places. One woman was a customer I met when I sold audio gear back in the early 80's. I set her system up for her, Yamaha separates, a Denon turntable and Infinity speakers. She invited me to have dinner with her and we listened to that system into the wee hours of the morning. Ultimately we became good friends.

The second woman had a McIntosh MAC1500 receiver, an AR turntable, and a pair of large Advent speakers in her living room. She kept that system on from morning until late night. We would spend hours together shopping for new music at Tower Records in San Francisco.

The third woman had a very mediocre little system until she began spending time with me and enjoying my sound system. She got the audio bug and put together a small McIntosh system with a MA5100 integrated amp, M&K satellite speakers and M&K subwoofer, and a Dual turntable.

Of all the different woman I have known in my life, these three women were the only ones who would sit and enjoy music without wanting to talk or get up and do something else while the music was playing. Every other woman I have known has shown little to no interest in music other than something in the background. Most of these women would spend hours parked in front of a television and not want to be disturbed, or endlessly wandering the corridors of some mall, while at the same time criticizing me for wanting to be left undisturbed while listening to music.

Frankly, I don't care that my interest in music, audio systems, and the tweaking involved to improve performance aren't shared by the majority of women. Honestly, who cares? I find a great deal of personal satisfaction enjoying and being immersed in high-end audio. I have adjusted my priorities to encompass my interests. That a large portion of females do not find value in my interests is of no concern to me. Endlessly trolling malls shopping for makeup, clothes, shoes, handbags, and jewelry holds no interest for me, but I don't begrudge any woman who enjoys those endeavors. I would rather mix a cool adult beverage, park myself in the sweet spot in my studio, and enjoy the performance and peace of mind that a superb sound system provides me.

The good thing is there is no conflict in my home about activities. Marlene is a TV person and I am an audio enthusiast. We understand and support each other's past times. She has her space and I have mine. Beyond that, I don't really care what the rest of the world or the opposite gender is interested in doing. Life is too short to worry about nonsense beyond my control. Thankfully there are both yin and yang.

Luckily my wife also loves good quality music.

We enjoy going to concerts together (15-20 per year) and we listen to our system almost every day.

Last week we got delivery of 8 panels and 2 small blocks that will reside in the living room.
They will be installed by an acoustic specialist next month (he usually works with Alon Wolf for his European demos).
I guess I'm a fortunate guy...

You should never have taken her to an audio show lol !

The only one I remember is the nice Vietnamese woman with the excellent system. She seems like a real audiophile.

That's for sure. Shes been to 2, I think that's what did it. She said she would rather go to a major golf tournament :disbelief:

you took your wife to two audio shows ??? I'm not sure who's crazier, you or her for going to a second one !

I am extremely fortunate in that my wife not only enjoys the hobby, she doesn't blink at any potential upgrade no matter what the cost or hoops we need to jump through to get new equipment (demoing new stuff in house, at a dealer, and traveling to a dealer to listen, endless noodling around with the system to try to tweak as much as possible, audio shows, normally being the only women when listening at organized events, and even having to deal with sale people not taking her seriously).

What makes me even more lucky is that there is never a "you just got an amp, I want an XXX". She never asks for anything. Ever.

BTW: I have found she has better ears than I and can absolutely trust her to pick up on things I might miss.

Well the first one was Vegas at CES many years ago when the show was really pretty awesome , plus it was Vegas, the next show RMAF, that was it.

go ahead Chris, take her to a third, perhaps it will be a 'charm' !

Anthony.......You are a most fortunate man.

I am not aware of any and maybe kinda get why...

Hearing the music makes the ladies want to groove, and assuming so, then we have to build a dance stage to go with our sound stage and probably would need to isolate it with Stillpoints, and wire the disco ball with some high end power cable, then comes the fear of where would they land if the tripped over the 5 figure speaker cable raised on stands off the floor?
