Did you ride today?

Any of you guys take any recovery nutrition? I use Hammer's Recoverite. Seems to help a lot.
No specific recovery nutrition other than a balanced diet including natural sources of proteins. I use stretches in the evening to help recovery while listening to music. Personally never found that commercially produced recovery food helped except to put on the weight, which I'm trying to get away from :S. Again we are all different so whatever works is fine.

Recoverite def'ly works for me.

Hear chocolate milk is also very good, too!

re: weight. I'm still losing weight from cycling. Over 35lbs thus far.

Do use recovery food in a balanced meal but I try to forgo commercial products (sport recovery drinks), and yes I will use chocolate milk as a recovery food source. Should correct what I mentioned above, I eat when hungry and not when they say it's optimal (30 minute window after a workout). I tried that before and I ended up gaining weight, soooo out the door it went. Again YMMV!

BTW big congrats on the weight loss Allen and keep it up. May I ask if you are close to target?

Didn't start out having a target but once I started cycling, I started to eat better, healthier, etc. Started to lose about 15lbs and then I put a target of 150. I'm now slightly below that. Probably will lose a little more through summer cycling, too.:what:

Generally I'm not hungry after a ride, so I force myself to eat within that time window. Pasta the night before, leftovers for refuel!

Funny how everyone is so different.

Good for you, below target! I'm hovering around my target weight of 175 pounds for a 6 feet frame, wouldn't mind going to 165 but the old body is resisting :sneaky: (think the attraction to good food and wine as something to do with it).

Always interesting to see people going from unhealty eating habits to healthy ones once they start being active, as if the body needed quality fuel to replenish your energy levels.

My philosophy regarding food is that my body generally will request what it needs to be able to perform, I just follow the lead. Notice next time when you have specific cravings chances are your body is looking for something. Example you do a long ride and you sweat profusely, at the end of the day chances are you will be craving salty food so that you replenish lost salt but also in the process making you drink to recover from dehydration.

I did 36 miles today on a beautiful sunny day. Don't worry it didn't last. Day turned to night about an hour ago and the sky let loose. Lucky for me I was inside and done with my stretching and enjoying a nice cold recovery drink!

LOL!:D

Good riding, Doug! Btw, package is on the way!;)

Had a nice ride today. My friend convinced me to sign up on Strava so we can track each other's rides (he's in Boston). Strava says one speed, my (temperamental) Garmin says another.:what: Think Strava might be right. 45miles on a gorgeous Saturday morning.

Nice ride Allen. I use Strava along with a Cateye wireless on my bike. I get two different reading as well. I have no idea which is right but go with the GPS tracking of Strava. I'm not sure if the Cateye is set up for the correct size tire I'm using which might throw it off somewhat. Not a big enough deal to me to actually fix it though because changing ANYTHING on that damn Cateye is major PITA!!!

I did some nice rides this past week and hope to get out tomorrow morn. when the Mrs. is still in bed.

I got out yesterday for 20 miles. I took a few pics of the Hydro-electric plant that's near me. You can see the six turbines that generate the electricity. From my house to the far side of the bridge is exactly ten miles. I had a good ride going and ended up helping a guy who had his chain drop and went in-between the chainring and the crankarm. Usually no big deal right? Well this was an old bike with one of those pins on the inside of the crank that's supposed to keep the chain from doing that. Yeah right! I fixed it up for him and rode home with greasy fingers.

Strava, Garmin, Cateye, whatever is right should not matter as long as you enjoyed the ride! Anyways there should not be a significant difference in avg speed isn't it? If could it be that one does count when you are stopped and Strava does?

Nice pics, Doug! Do you go on roadbikereview.com forums? They have a thread about pics from your daily ride. Every time I see that thread it makes me want to go out for long rides. Your pics remind me of that thread. Very nice, Doug!

It's funny, when I first stopped and saw my avg speed, it was lower than garmin by about 0.5 mph. But when it was uploaded to Strava, it was spot on!:what:

No I don't. I really don't need another forum to visit, a guy needs to sleep you know! I use to visit the MTBR forums but if you think audio forums have a bunch of tools, you ain't seen nothing until you get on a cycling forum!

You know I'm gonna' have to go look now don't you! :P

Just read the text now (focused on pics before). Doug, try these:

Amazon.com: Citrus Degreaser Hand Towels by Grease Monkey Wipes - Box of 24: Sports & Outdoors

I purchased a box and keep a few packs in my bike bag. Doesn't take up much space at all. I haven't had the need to use them, but the reviews on Amazon have been consistently high.

So went for a ride today, about 36+ miles. Threat of rain but it never came. The air was thick and humid. Even though the temps said it was 75 or less, it felt 85 or more due to the humidity. :(

Happy riding everyone!:peace:

Thanks Allen, those look like they would fit right in my seat bag too. It always tough to ride in hot, humid weather. Makes you feel like your blood is as thick as syrup.

It was a beautiful summer day here today. I put in 29 today and actually rode halfway back with another cyclist. It's very uncommon for me to run into other cyclists out here in the boonies on the gravel backroads. The guy was riding a Cyclocross bike too even! We had a nice chat and ride back into town. Jeez I might have a riding partner here soon. Of course he may have thought that this old guy would only drag him down! :P
