I performed the update a couple of days ago. It went very smoothly, as usual. Once done, I created a new configuration file for the D400.

First impression? Wow! The Devialet originally was smooth. I never felt that it was too smooth because I can be sensitive to high frequencies. I love it the way it is, all day listening good. Too much treble or even a hint of sibilance drives me nuts. I think that's why I error on the warmer side of neutral with my gear. Now it's more open with more detail, it's like a veil has been lifted (a cliche I know). It sounds more dynamic with more air around vocals and instruments. It's more exciting now with that sweetness that I love.

Devialet has done an amazing job. I can not get over how clear and quiet it sounds. Late night listening, the majority of my listening, is superb. Music seems to come out of nowhere. Things I previously never heard are right there in front of me. I smile and shake my head in disbelief. How do they do it? I have not even tried the DSD function yet and my speakers are not SAM ready. I have even more to look forward to exploring. I just got a free upgrade and can not be more happy and excited.

Seems to be the general consensus with regards to just about every firmware update. I'm waiting for it to make me an espresso while I listen...who am I kidding...I'm just waiting :(

I heard the new update is 5K after 30days, 30% off for those listening late at night ........

I'm also excited about SAM lab. It will be amazing for less popular speakers...or newer ones like the Sopra's :exciting::exciting::exciting::exciting::exciting::exciting:

The gear swapper in Mike HAS to be researching how to get one of these. Looks like it plugs right in the back of your Devialet to Sam your speakers. :einstein:

I was thinking it could unplug itself from your system when you weren't listening and vacuum your floors. :D

What does RAM, Record Active Matching do for vinyl? Has anyone tried it?

RAM®, Record Active Matching: your vinyl records at their best
RAM®, Devialet's exclusive new technology (Record Active Matching) adapts in real time the phono stage parameters, including: EQ curves, mix mode, cartridge sensitivity and loading parameters. Now providing 11 new equalization curves.

Haven't tested it but what I understand is that it lets you change RIAA curves on the fly without having to reconfigure.

Meaning you manually match your vinyl/genre to one of the preset RIAA curves via the remote without having to load an SD card all the time.

(...). Things I previously never heard are right there in front of me.(...).

Yes, it is amazing. New second level details are showing every time In the proper way, without overshadowing the main scene.
These people at Devialet are learning fast!

You guys should hear Jon (VTSkier) do his imitation of meeting the Devialet engineers at CES. Hilarious.

There's been a number of reports of problems with SAM 2.0 on the Devialet Chat forum.

"Low frequency rumble & beating noise, as well as the glitches."

Any AS members who've load the 8.0 Firmware experienced this?

Also, has anyone tested 8.0 with DPM and the Subsonic Filter off (they're both on by default)?

BTW, a number of people have switched back to 7.1.1 or the beta 7.1.3 Firmware.

Must be placebo effect, but I loaded the v8 firmware tonight and sounds even better than usual. But I've read what V8 brings and doesn't seem like I should hear anything different. Gotta love this hobby. :skeptical:

I'm on V8.0 and not having any problem that's being plaguing others.. Guess I lucked out

This is the official word from Devialet:

"Firmware 7.1.3 is actually the last release of Firmware 7. Meaning that this is the most stable version of our firmwares. Firmware 8 is newer than the 7 and it includes many improvements compared to firmware 7 (ICM, DPM, phono menu). It does however need some corrections, that will consequently appear in firmware 8.1"

"Actually the 7.1.1 compared to the 7.1.3 is very different; Because the 7.1.3 brought many ameliorations to the 7.1.1. So it is not surprising that the sound is better on the 7.1.3, simply because it corrects and improve the general version 7 of the firmware.

Of course in the future, we hope to do the same with firmware 8."

I have the D400 and am using it to drive my S5s. Loving it thus far. Version 8.0 and no bad artifacts.
