"Destination" Part Deux

Not sure which speakers will stay, as they are both just GREAT; but I want to get off the amp merry-go-round

How are you ever going to get off the "amp merry-go-round" when you haven't even settled on the speakers you plan on keeping until they go up for sale? :)

And then we have this:

^^ That's the thing guys; I'm not sure which speakers are going to stay...and I know, typically, that makes all the difference in the world (in terms of synergy). But part of getting off the amp merry-go-round...as it's just too damn hard, packing, un-packing, moving, shipping...typically BIG, heavy-a$$ amps; is I want something, that's a good jack-of-all-trades.

As the old saying goes, "Jack of all trades, master of none." So you are basically shopping for an amp to drive speakers you aren't sure of. It seems a "deal" is more important than the match of speaker to amp since the speakers are still an unknown at this point based on this:

I'm measuring this decision, with price vs. performance/power in mind. So yes; considering the price I've been offered, on a 4B SST2...it stays on the short list. It's the "bargain" of the group; and again...I haven't heard anyone say "it stinks".

And after I posted that you weren't taking the advice of anyone that was trying to help you (and note I didn't recommend a single amp for your consideration), you said this:

Yeah, thanks Joe. You're absolutely right; and it's always easy, to spend other's money...yes? ;)

But that's exactly what you asked for when you asked people to help you pick out an amp.

And you said this to me, even though I never told you to stay away from the Bryston amp:

Your vote has been noted; you don't like it. I get it. But don't paint me, as ignoring people's advice.

I have never heard the Bryston amp so I have no idea what it sounds like, but I would paint you as someone who ignores other people's advice. Why? Because you asked people for their advice and have subsequently ignored everything people have suggested. Do I blame you for that? Not really. As you said, it's your money.

And finally:

OK...one last question for the group:

I'm 90% settled on the Belles amps, as I have a good relationship with the dealer; and have liked their presentation in the past. It's the kind of clean, neutral power...that just gets out of the way, and let's you tweak upstream if so wanted...that I'm looking for at this time.

The 350v2, is 250/500 for $4k list; and one of the features that I like about these amps...is just go from the single-ended connectors, to balanced, and you're running mono instead. And...the 350v2, double down again; from 250 @8, to [email protected] a cool kilo-watt @8 in mono. That's some serious nutz!

In fact, it got me thinking: I don't need 1,000 watts per side. In fact...IMO; no one needs, 1,000 watts per side...lest your room is an auditorium ;) The 150v2 is 125/250; but like its big brother, goes mono with a change of the cable...and is 500 @8 when it does so. Maybe that's the better play?

Certainly it's enough power. What I know I do lose, is some headroom and current. For example...the 150 makes >30 amperes of peak current; the 350 64!

So...the 150 is 125/250/500; and $2750 list...$5500 for a pair

The 350 is 250/500/1,000; and $4k list...you can do the math, lol.

Keep in mind; of course there is some discounting involved. Votes?

And keep in mind you have a "Belles connection." I think you should settle on what speakers you want to keep around for the next several months and then decide on the best sounding amp in your budget that will drive those speakers the best until you sell them both and jump back on the merry-go-round and start over again. How can people possibly tell you the best amp you can buy for the money when they don't even know what speakers they will be driving? Votes? I don't think so and I don't think it really matters anyway.
