Oh my. The MicroZOTL I heard at CAF last year was amazing. And that's David's affordable line!

Look forward to hearing about this bad boy Mike! And esp made for the AG!:celebrate008_2:

I hear Berning are amazingly good. Unfortunately can't find them here. Keep us posted Mike

Never heard a Berning amp that wasn't especially good.

Mike, is this the transformer-less version?

Early impressions?

Yes. Transformer-less (OTL).

Dynamic. A layer or veil has been removed. Natural. The SE input has more of a purity and bloom than the XLR. But the XLR input is quieter.

Mike,

What are your impressions on the Berning so far?
Absolutely one of the most musical amps I have ever heard.

I am curious to know what cables you are using with the Berning.

Regards.

Very good. Different than my Triode 300b's, but not better. Still love 300b sounds on the AG's. It will take a lot to unseat the reigning champ. TRX-M300's with all vintage Western Electric tubes.

Cables? All Siltech.

Nice! The reason I asked about cables is because the Berning I've heard belongs to a friend who has taken out all "audiophile" cables from his chain. David Berning also didn't seem to care for brand cables. He now uses vintage WE 16GA and the sound is just glorious.

Regards.

I think this might be the same amp he had in the Voxativ room at Capital Audiofest last year. I love that hand-engraved labeling.
Every amp Berning has made since 1998 or so has been "OTL", but since it's Berning, that means it operates completely differently than other OTLs. The LTA power amps have 1.7 Ohm output impedances and are happy with 4 Ohm loads or pretty much anything above 1.7. I think that amp switches between feedback and no feedback, and I'm not sure of its specs, but I'm pretty certain it'd also be happy with any standard, low, or high speaker load.

Mike,

Do you have any experience with Atma-Sphere OTL amps? If you do, how does the Berning OTL compare to AS OTLs?
