Hi,

I'm thinking about getting an iPad with a data plan, possibly Verizon. I have a Sprint smartphone but the reception in most of the office coverage is terrible as it is with AT&T. I think there are some Verizon repeaters in the building and my Verizon basic cell phone has perfect reception. Do any of you have a data plan for your iPads and about how much can I expect to pay for monthly service. It would make it easier to surf as the office computers are becoming increasingly locked down. No more Team Viewer allowed :(

I have the $20 /month Verizon plan.. (1 GB)
I did this initially just to see where I ended up.

6 months later, I've kept the $20 a month plan, have not exceeded it. (yet) 80% of the time wifi, but it is really really nice to have LTE kick in automatically for a bit here and there as needed.

Thanks Jock and Ray. It might be time to jump in.

I only turn on the data plan when I am traveling overseas. I normally use my phone if I am traveling in the US since I am grandfathered with unlimited data. In the us I will take my MacBook Air for use in hotels.

Joe, do you have an iphone or Android phone? I buy data services only when I go abroad for my AT&T ipad, but will tether the ipad to my Android phone when in the states. Like Jim, I got grandfathered into the unlimited plan.

Hi Allen,

I have a sprint unlimited plan but the reception where I spend most of my time at work is terrible to almost non existent. Verizon is better but I'd have to add data to my other cell phone contract. Yes, I have 2 cell phones, Sprint and Verizon.

Thanks Jock. It does help.

Allen,

I'll install that app later. Thank you. I think I can put my Sprint Galaxy Note II Android phone far enough away from me to reach a good signal and use the WiFi hotspot thingy. Wow! This might work well.

It works very well for me on motorola Razr Maxx. Check to make sure your phone is supported.

Also the data plans on Verizon are month to month so there is no long time commitment. At least the ones that I've used are month to month.

I was going to warn you about sprint tablets Joe. I got a cheap one.was only like $100.
And the service was $20 a month. For 1 gb. I rarely usd it and kept going over the 1 gig .
Was told it trickles the whole time. And sprint killed me on overages. The plan on my phone is unlimited data. So instead of paying those overages every month I just stopped using the tablet and use my phone. Now I'm stuck paying for another number for a year and a half.
Maybe if I got another tablet like an IPad I would use it more. But I got sprint for $$ savings and between the fact, my free smartphone broke quickly and they gave me a year and a half until upgrade. I had to pay another fee per month and get a new line for 2 years, just to get out of the other phone and get an I phone.
I moved from Verizon which worked everywhere I went on the east coast.
And everywhere I've driven all over the country to save money and now with all this BS my bill is actually higher than it was on Verizon. Do yourself a favor and go back to Verizon.
Before sprint catches you up in there web of deceit. Lmao!!!!
Anyway I've had AT&T too good service but Didn't work at all in Maine.
That was. Few years ago.
My plan with sprint is to pay the $200 a month I got screwed into then in march I can cancel the tablet. (2 years contract extension)then in a year I can cancel 1 line and be back to my original payment. The. I can go back to Verizon once this new iPhone kicks it.
Or I can tell em to F@&$ off and not pay em a dime and go back to Verizon .

I don't have my iPad plan tied to my phone plan at all. if that helps at all.

Same here, separate plans... only confusing thing was my iPad data plan having a new phone number associated with it.
'come to think of it, I need to call that number and see what happens. :)

For the most part my Sprint coverage is not bad, certainly not up to Verizon. I use my Sprint phone for the data coverage and my Verizon phone for the voice calls. I could add a data plan to my Verizon plan or just try making my Sprint the wifi hotspot. I think I can get enough reception to make that work so I need to experiment. Thanks for all the tips. I may have a few more questions on setup.
