Well first, I can't be a Fox Fanboy because I don't have anything more than a roof antenna. My local Fox station is no different than the rest, they won't even air the daily briefings and dwell on the Death Scroll and nothing positive.

In this day and age, you don’t need to have the cable to be a Fox News fanboy. Judging from what you’ve been preaching for weeks, I wouldn’t be surprised.

I am not downplaying the virus, it is serious.

I’m sure you will find another way to downplay it after you say you’re not downplaying it. You’ve been just short of calling this a hoax.

However I do like to stir things up and see if people can think outside the box, or for themselves. Too many people are only listening to one side of what is going on and how it has been handled. Today's briefing was very well done, but not one station will air the whole briefing if any and the press is outright disrespectful with their lines of questions and accusations.

What you’re doing is the opposite of stirring the pot but political propaganda with hidden messages and jabs. You keep saying both sides, yet your view is consistently from one side only.

I'll step out of this discussion now.

I’m sure you’ll be back with another out of context snapshot of a stat or with a YouTube video to politically charge this thread again. Until then..

Only 16 more days to go on this Michigan "shelter in place" order.
Good thing I'm not 40 years younger as I probably would have screwed myself to death by now.

Are you implying Fauci is politically scheming against your guy?

You do know he’s served Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton, Bush Jr., Obama and now Trump. And widely regarded as world’s leading infectious disease expert. Attacking him and getting him fired is mind-boggling thick because it will cost lives.

Where did I suggest he was scheming against MY guy? I clearly said it could be either side that would not be happy.

I am not doubting he is possibly the world's leading infectious disease expert.

He should stick to the disease information and leave whether the country is open to vote to others.

Did you see the clarification of previous statements he made yesterday by any chance?

Ok then Buddy, bring this ship back on course !

We should all be adult enough not to need brought back on course.

The original intent of this thread was to help and prepare people for something that looked sort of bad. As we have now learned that is now an understatement of the issue at hand.

This thread was NEVER about saying this new media source is correct and the other is incorrect. It wasn’t for discussing the politics of the issue.

How can you help keep and make this thread more relevant? Post what you are actually seeing in your respective community. Don’t post what the news media is spouting off, but what exactly what you are seeing. Post what the stores in your area have and don’t have. If you have a need post it someone might be able to fill it for you ...

Gotcha Joe and with that being said, I reside in SE Pa. I continue to see light traffic on the highways(when I do go out) and better coordination at our local grocery stores. We have 'senior' hours from 0600-0800 and while there yesterday @ 0615 I did take exception to a young man well under the age of 65 shopping and not wearing a mask ! He gave me the usual dumb millennial look !

Getting awfully low on sweet vermouth, anyone wanna trade for a few rolls of TP ? !

People never behave on threads that are fraught with political overtones. They feel compelled to get their shots in. I warned about this since this thread started. Nobody should be surprised by how people responded on this thread. It’s like sending a starving man to a buffet and expecting him not to eat much.

I agree. While they should report what's happening they need to do it in a more balanced way.

I seem to remember when the news was more about well I guess real news that was more balanced. I'm unsure how many real journalists still exist today.

This is not to start a battle Cavlin aka Joe. You made comments on the media quite early. Are you now against people here having a view/opinion on how the Covid-19 virus is being portrayed?

I am not disagreeing with your post I quoted here.
It is just most everything here is hearsay from someones source or another. At this time really none of us truly know what will turnout to be factual relating to the spread or vaccine or cure. Only the future can tell us that.

Are many people getting frustrated and short with others. Probably so, it is the nature of penned up creatures.

We are all, I'm sure, still glad you started this thread. Thanks

We live in Naples, FL and your stores sound like they are doing much better than ours. We have senior times (but Naples is a retirement community so almost everyone is a senior), but while I qualify my wife doesn't. We stocked up pretty well initially, but are finding little of what we normally use on the shelves now. The red meats we are locating at Publix and Costco are horrible - way too much fat. Tunafish and salmon to the rescue.

We make our own hand sanitizer with Aloe and alcohol. Works well so far and smells great.

My wife wears a mask when she goes out. She reports that most she sees are wearing them. Someone in our HOA actually makes reusable cloth masks that may be washed and gives them out for free. Our postman, UPS, and Fed-Ex drivers were even wearing a mask this week ... I feel confident that "designer" masks will catch on here soon ...

In our HOA neighbors are working with other neighbors to make bulk purchases. When possible we are shopping for one another. While keeping safe distances, we have weekly Block Happy Hours (byob) in each others front yards.

Since I have some chronic conditions, I'm not suppose to leave the house - except to exercise (doctor's orders). Three mile walks are a great time but it seems like all Naples has now joined in the fun now ... So, I walk later when it's hotter to avoid the crowds. It was a hot one today - in the 90s.

This said, this is not suffering, just some minor inconveniences.

Yes, I made comments on the media very early. Being a former homicide detective I know how the media can twist turn and torture the facts and end up doing more harm than good. Many times they report mere uninformed opinions, not facts. Misinformation can literally kill people!

As the quote reveals I stated they should report things in a balanced way. I have nothing against good balanced reporting or posting. But a lot of what I'm reading in this thread is far from balanced and fair. It's not helpful or useful.

Good point. Read the medical and science articles/journals and study the raw data. Draw your own conclusions.

Took delivery last Friday of an aerator for my lawn, the delivery guy wore gloves and an N95 mask, I made sure to thank him for doing so, he in turn wished my family a blessed Easter. Yes, in times like this kindness can still come thru ......

Respectfully, mep everything may have a political or religious implication. Even audio equipment can become political or religious in a discussion. So, as you know there are rules in place on AS to guard against such ("Discussions regarding Politics and Religion are not permitted. Offenders will jeopardize their memebership."). Therefore, when I post I expect that most people have read and can obey the rules. I think when most people post they expect this.

And there are many illustrations in this very thread of Sharks following the rules. They discuss COVID-19 without getting political. So, it's possible! It can be done. And it's not that difficult for those of us who can control our appetites - which we all have.

Am I surprised when some people break the rules? Let's see I was a LEO for the greater part of my life putting lawbreakers in jail. So, no I'm not surprised. But just because some people run over other people with cars doesn't mean we should ban all cars. Just because someone bashes a person in the head with a hammer doesn't mean we should ban all hammers. No, there is a more sensible solution - put the law breakers in jail, et. al.

PS: There are different internet buffets on the WWW. Some allow politics. Those that are hungry to express such views can eat elsewhere.

I have been reading the literature as this is my area of expertise for my professional scientific career. I will say that even some of the published scientific papers don't agree on all aspects of the virology of the SARS-CoV-2, and I personally didn't agree with some of conclusions the authors, particularly when they are arriving at their conclusions in the Discussion section by nothing more than some hand-waving.

And, the raw data is not what is useful, its the reduced data along with the appropriate analysis that informs our thinking in a meaningful way about actions we need to take to manage, track, treat, and prevent the spread of this virus.

Stephen, I'll take that to mean ....... 'Stay home and have an extra Manhattan'. Now if I could only find another bottle of sweet vermouth !

That would be a really good idea. Now is not the time to relax. Folks are talking about hitting the "peak of the curve"...but what that really means is that the next day after the peak is the 2nd worst day.

And...today's numbers reflect what we as a society did to curtail spread 14-21 days ago. Every current day reflects that of the past several weeks' actions taken.

Tomorrow's numbers do NOT mean we did good yesterday to quell the spread.
