CES news 2014

Hi Bob, thanks I wasn't aware. At that asking price they better be special, makes my ownership of Vac Statement 450's rather sane :) The Gina table was actually on my short list but AF-1 more so, went with the later.

Look forward to hearing a pair of these.

BTW, I thought the VAC set up with the big Focals was a STATEMENT System for sure. It was great!

Dev, do you live in Toronto? I just assumed so from your profile.....

Yeah, let's all go to Canada and play with the AF 1~

BTW, through these posts I have had some conversations with some audio friends and a very nice customer of Rhapsody from Phila. TWO of these gents have AF 1 TT's, and Phila is less than 2 hours from NYC. I will be visiting and hearing these systems in the near future. :exciting:

Bob - I thought the Absolare/S5 setup that you played for me on the first day was the best I heard in any of the normal sized rooms. It rocked! Plus, Kerem is such an engaging, friendly, cool guy. He should be giving lessons on how to work a room. The guy has an amazing knack to make everyone in the room feel like they are the most important person there.

Hi Bob,

yes I do, I'm just north of the city called Woodbridge. My door is always opened to other music lovers in the hobby and have numerous other friends with awesome set-ups - they just don't post.

I know, Kerem is incredible, isn't he? I do NOT think that I've ever met a nicer person....seriously. He is COMPLETELY genuine as well.

It's a long shot, but I will let you know once I firm up my Toronto trip plans....it could be a while yet, I have no idea at this point, BUT thank you for your consideration.

Ya know....I am in the process, sometime in the next month or two of shipping and installing a complete Goldmund system to a customer in Toronto. Would LOVE to hear your system!!!!!

Hi Bob, wow what does it consist of. It's been pretty quiet, no one has mentioned to me they were doing this but you just never know because some like to surprise. What does this person have presently for a set-up. Are you planning on shipping and then flying or driving? How long will you be in the area.

No problem, let me know. I also have a pair of EA MM3 speakers currently sitting in their crates and will be hopefully setting them up in a couple months time or possibly having a pair of German Physiks Gaudi MKII's installed, a few things in the air right now.

Long story....it's not a BIG system, it's only a $170K system:woot: I have two pallets in my entry way from Switzerland ready to ship, but am working through some logistical issues. I will be shipping the pallets....about 900lbs. by freight and then flying up to do the install. I will pm you once things get certain, or if you REALLY want to have fun, we could arrange a visit right here on the forum:exciting:

You are having a good time up there!

Have you ever heard "or anyone else" German Physiks upper model speakers, there's a pair of Gaudi's in Hong Kong. This is the model I'm interested in getting, their flagship. By no means cheap at $220K EUR

WOW! Look at those CES girls!

Those weren't really there, it's a promo for next door hotel where there's a strip joint.
And you can call them directly to arrange for a meeting in your own room. :)

* What happens in Vegas stays in ...

You should have heard Michael Jackson-Billie Jean on this system...talk about getting down...yikes!

The album (vinyl) is of great sound quality Bob. ...Better than its CD counterpart (in this case here). ...Both from their regular versions. And the LP you can get the two-LP remastered 25th anniversary one. ...And the CD too (+ SACD).
- SACD ...Japanese and USA (not hybrid, and stereo only).

* The original CD (9 songs) is out of print (I got that one too), and it sounds better that the 25th anniversary remastered
2-disc set one (on two LPs too).

...The SACD (DSD), slightly better, but not by much. ...And unfortunately only stereo.

Man, Michael Jackson! ... R.I.P. ...Good stuff and great dancer!

Interesting Bob, actually I was quite surprised at the what the system sounded like with just the redbook cd.....it was "rockin", would have even better with the mentioned recordings.

Several who have heard this room were positive so I figured best to see what Albert Porter though because he owns the same speakers and also looking at amplification options.

Albert Porter said he stopped by but was disappointed upon entering the room mainly because he was expecting similar sound, said very different from what he's getting, said the room being so different than his could easily account for it. I wonder how many hours in general were on all of the pces I this set-up, I have read Albert's journey which included up and downs with his own speakers sound wise throughout the break-in period so I wonder what if any contribution that may of had "hours on the actual speakers".

How long has Albert been working on his room/system? I know people know this but the vendors have to set up a statement system in literally a few hours and then people start coming in to the room. It's not by vendor choice, it's the hotel and show policies and procedures etc. Forget whether the components are broken in, they just got done getting bounced around by a trucking/moving company and it takes at least 24 and more like 48 hours to settle in, once they are set up and turned on. And then hotel power, which is very questionable at best.

Speaker placement in the room, which in a private room usually takes me MONTHS to get the best results, must be done in about an hour. Depending on the sizes of the rooms this could or not be an issue. For example in the case of the Focal room the room was a giant room. Then you have to take into consideration that you are going to have maybe 50 people in the giant room at once, so speaker placement must accommodate this requirement first.

Also, what is Albert's room size? The CES Focal room must have been 30' or 40' wide by 40' or 50' deep.

Anyway, to compare a room that is set up in a few hours with who knows the length of time that equipment has been broken in etc., is fairly amusing imho.

With having said the above, I personally thought that a few of the rooms that I was involved with, with literally a few hours of set up sounded better with the EXACT same equipment that I have had in my room, which I have worked at for months. I learned that I have my speakers WAY too far out into the room. I got back from the West Coast last night and listened to my set up and was not pleased vs. our rooms at CES. I moved the speakers back towards the back wall like we had the speakers set up in LV and I heard more similar sound that I grew accustomed to in LV. Point being.....who knows???? It could go either way.

Bob, the D5 will be shipping in April? That's great news.

The US list price for the D5's in black is $220K. Pretty funny, I remember having a rich girlfriend in high school and college and all she talked about was someday having a really nice house that would cost around $50K. It used to make my head spin thinking about how would I ever afford something like that.....I know inflation etc, but still, just sayin'.

Please don't take my posting out of text in reference to posting what Albert conveyed to me about that room as I wrote, he is experienced knows about the issues in general and why it was left vague in general but did answer my question.

Any experienced individual knows you just get to see, touch lots of goodies all under one roof along with hopefully get to speak to a representative of said specific products of interest.
