Casta Acoustics Model C speakers

This morning I woke up early and had my coffee and drove about 40 mins to get there.

I went in and the room was beautiful with nice gears and I found the Casta Acoustics Model C in there ( Only pair in Ontario as far as I know )

The speakers was beautiful (Italians know how to make nice look for sure ) It looked very heavy and nice piano finish with red accent on side panel.

He paired with ARC with Pass Labs 350.5 plus Envogue TT and ClearAudio Master solution AMG with two tone arms ( One was Triplanner and can't remember other arm )

I was really hoping to hear them with Tube amps however it wasn't available. ( yes I supposed to bring my own but I forgot as usual )

The bass coming out from 15" woofer was astonishing so real also it was fast, heavy and clean .
The High note was kind of new to me - I wasn't big fan of horn sound but hey it sounded wonderful with full extension. However the mid range wasn't good as my ref speakers. I spent about 2 hours there and my final conclusion was this baby needs some more time to break in. ( Later he told the speakers probably only had 200 hours ) Also I do have to mention that the Pass Labs 350.5 wasn't a good match with these speakers. it was pushing so much details and power to yours ears and I almost fell like bleeding my ears after a half an hour.

I'm planning to go back there in a month and trying to bring my tube amps as well and hope by that time the speakers should all broken in. Sorry guys I wish I could give you full report with broken in pair.

On another room was playing with Audio Note set up ( 300 B amp with 8 Watts ) to be honest with you I actually enjoyed more with this set up ( so you can tell I am a tube guy lol )

Thanks for the write up Paul! The horn sound takes some getting used to. The only horn speaker I've ever lusted after are the Volti Vittora's. No horn honkiness at all.

Looking forward to your update.

This is the biggest red flag for me. It says that something wasn't working for you and maybe these aren't the one. Maybe the amp, maybe the speakers, maybe both. If you're still interested in them you really need to bring your amp with you next time and make sure it isn't the speakers that give you a headache.

Sometimes things just don't work out the way you want them to.

Paul, that's my exact turntable setup except my second arm is a Michell Tecnoarm instead of the Triplanar. The first arm on you left is a Graham Phantom by the way. Did you listen to vinyl when you auditioned the Casta's? If so you may have had many variables that you were not accustomed to compared to your regular listening patterns. Second you seem to want everything the VA's do but in a lusher sound, not sure you can get that with horns. I would suggest you let go of the speaker fetish for the moment and concentrate on the analog front end, I'm sure with time you can dial in your analog front end to make the VA's sing exactly the way you want them. But you need to wet your feet first!

Naturally YMMV

I hear you Dan. BTW Did you have a chance to listen to VPI Classic 3 ?

Also anyone can pm me for street price of VPI Classic 3 Rose wood or Black gross ? Thanks in advance.

Nice write up, Paul. Too bad they weren't to your liking. Maybe with your tubes it will be better synergy. Keep us posted.
