can i ask your opinion on my main rig,its a vintage set up and hope im not in the wong place to ask this favor?

Yes, those Roteles (CD players) are very good indeed. ...Extremely low dither. ...Full sound, very well balanced, everywhere (bass, mids, and air), plus they are designed by well calibrated Jazz music lovers (designers).

Like I said, google, get one of them, and don't take my word for it; only trust your own ears. :)

thanks will do . so what gear do you use?

im just kicking back today listening to a few records and cds listening to the cult at moment but was mostly pink floyd today so far and donavan with a spinkle of paul simon lol

Ah just some mix of old and new. ...Bunch of rigs, but the main kit consists of Image Concept 200 (Canadian tower speakers from the late 80s, designed by Ian Paisley with the help of the NRC in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and custom modified by yours truly), Integra pre/pro, Rotel amps, Rotel CD player (991), Oppo Universal BD player (103), more speakers (Canadian), Denon Universal player (3930), and couple subs (from Baltimore, USA).
Other stuff too; interconnects, wires, etc., mainly from KK and Canare.
And that main rig is used for cinema (60" plasma - 3D), and multichannel/stereo music listening.
...Other rigs are for music (passive listening).

Main room is eleven feet high, and is perfect for small live Jazz or Blues bands (jamming).

Music I love in the year 2013 (now) = Classical, Jazz, Blues, New Age, International (World), Folk, ....
I'm both analog and digital (started Mono analog in the sixties), but mainly digital for the time being.
Except for r.a.d.i.o.; mainly analog.

As you can tell, very humble life & all that jazz.

well its been a while,

things have changed a bit with my system, first of all the cd player I have changed and very happy I did ,I use a kenwood lvd-z1 now and it is a amazing differents, I also added some matching monitor speakers to the fronts ,did away with my technics tape deck and use my teac a-450 and also did away with the pioneer pl-530 and now use elac miracord 760 and a akai ap-004 record players.

how ever you guys were right about the cd player

Hmm, unless the Pioneer PL530 was having issues, I personally would have kept that over the Akai, but this is a subjective thing, so it's really up to your ears.
Keeping the Teac tape deck was a good choice. Teac was well known back in the day for their tape decks. Nakamichi was another very well regarded make.
Cd players can make a big difference indeed. It's all in the way the dac is implemented and of course the technology of the era. I went from in Onkyo C-390 to a Marantz CD5004 and it was night and day. Same abilities, but entirely different dac implementation design and topology.
Just about the only other thing I would look at is the cartridges. How much mileage do you have on them? What cart are you running on the Akai?
