Brinkmann Nyquist DAC - technical jewel with marvelous sound

wonderful piece of gear. when brinkmann update the digital module to include a fiber input and my audio slush fund recovers, i might have to be in on the nyquist.

Indeed, at least I’m enjoying it.

I just wonder what you mean with fiber input, as it has both an Ethernet/ RJ45 and Toslink inputs?

either an SFP fiber input like lumin is using on their x-1 or an SC fiber input like MSB is using in one of their modules (although, they seem to have a proprietary implementation).

the benefit of this input type is that it provides "optical isolation". as i understand it, all the accumulated upstream electrical noise is eliminated at the point the electrical signal is converted into an optical signal which can carry only the 0s and 1s. analogous to galvanic isolation only better (perfect?).

see the gigafoil thread where a number of AS members seem to gain a significant benefit from this optical-isolation device placed just before a usb dac. however, those with a dac having a fiber input get this benefit directly.

also see the MSB Pro USB thread

I’m aware of that thread and discussion, and I do have an Aqvox SE Switch in front of the Nyquist.

I've installed optical isolation upstream of my server/renderer pair (Antipodes CX/EX) (see link: https://www.audiostream.com/content/...etworked-audio) and it made a small but noticeable difference. I'm feeding my Nyquist MkII with a Cardas Hi-Speed USB cable that was an improvement over the stock cable that came with it. I've found the USB cable sounds better than using a Cat7 shielded ethernet cable going into the Nyquist. I also installed a Cardas ethernet cable from the optical isolation to the server and also between server and renderer and that made a bigger difference.

Bottom line, the optical isolation seemed to make a small improvement. YMMV but it's a fairly small $$ investment and easily purchased via Amazon. Better USB and ethernet cables seemed to make more of a difference but both are a more substantial $$ investment.

The AQ Diamond RJ45 Ethernet cable made a huge difference. But there is a price of admission.

Brinkmann Nyquist MK II, plus Marconi and Edison in January TAS

Really is a nice piece, MK II blends and works beautifully on the digital side - highly recommended for consideration

As I have understood, both Marconi and Edison have been re-designed quite a bit for their mk2 versions.

Thanks for sharing. I’m looking at the Vega G2.1, used Nyquist if I can find at the right price or possibly the top Holo.

Good luck for your search, three great products to choose from.

Which Holo is their top model?

Has anyone had a chance to compare the Brinkmann Nyquist MK2 to Aries Cerat dac's such as Helene or Kassandra ref. MK2 ?

Well..... down to MS. discrete, Bartók, Meitner MA3 and Brinkman. Nyquist mk2. They are all similar cost when I buy used for Brinkman s others. Meitner is by far least expensive. Wish I could audition more. I liked the Select I heard at Mikes years ago. Loved the mK1 Nyquist Heard Bartók two years ago and was impressed.

Each dealer I speak with seems to try and sell MA3 or MSB or Bartók over Nyquist. That includes a 2 dealers who sell both. Cant afford to make a mistake here. Cost matters a ton for me too, so there’s that. I won’t go listen at a dealer if I’m not buying there. Hmmm m. Lol

hi guys!

Just sell a bunch of stuff to get a new system which implies a Diesis Ludos speakers, a Diesis Class A hybrid amp; now looking for a DAC and streamer and found this beautiful solution.

I'm hesitating propietary Diesis Neptune (and a new one they're finishing little cheaper), an Aqua La Scala (if I could I'd go with the Formula) plus LinQ, and Angstrom ZDA-71 or this beautiful Brinkmann,

Has any of You compared them? is it a serious vinyl contender?

Thanks in advance!
