Brinkmann Nyquist DAC - technical jewel with marvelous sound

I was thinking using using the sonictransporter-i7 with ROOM pre-installed. Do you think it is a good solution ?

https://www.smallgreencomputer.com/...ansporter-i7-for-roon-dsp?variant=35324041615

I think this is pretty much what I have on the NAS spec-wise, in-line or over what Roon recommends. Important are a powerful CPU, Roon Core on a separate SSD for access speed, min. 4 GB RAM.

Then you just need to add the storage space for your music, but I saw that you can add that to the server and they implement it.

There are people who are into memory de-fragging and of course a better power supply is always good. But so far I have not ventured into anything that sort yet.

Defragged or defractionalized? 2 different things, so I want 2to be sure what you mean.

The Roon setup is pretty much following HW requirements on the Roon website. Setting it up on a NAS you just happen to have available will most likely not even work, as it will require a strong processor, a 64-bit architecture and a SSD to run the core.

As described, file playback from NAS and Aurender were pretty much comparable, but Tidal was better via the NAS. Might have to do with better streaming connectivity from the NAS over Ethernet.

Is this just a powerful NAS or is it really a SAN, ie a system storage solution that also generates and maintains its own network? Storage Area Network.

There is talk that a SAN has SQ benefits because of the isolated network strictly for audio.

Sorry for the sloppy language. Defractionalized, not defragmented.

I think SAN might actually be the correct terminus technicus.

The Roon Core sits in the NAS on a separate SSD dedicated to that task only. The Roon Core Database is maintained on the same drive, while the actual media resides on separate spinning discs. In addition there is another on-board SSD fully dedicated to serve as an extra cache. The Roon Core communicates directly with the Roon Endpoint creating its own network, no other traffic has access to or is part of that data stream.

When playing Tidal through the Aurender the traffic is part of the common data stream within the local network. That might indeed be the reason why there was a perceived difference in SQ when playing Tidal via Roon/ NAS or via Aurender.

Yes, Ku...I tend to agree. The dedicated Network is a boon to SQ. I cant recall, have you put LPSUs on all peripherals in this setup? The Main modem with the incoming house connections, any switch in your SAN, LPSU feed to the SAN itself ? Apparently, all that makes an audible difference according to my pals running similar simulations.

Yes, defragging is just a temporary realignment of the storage space for faster logical access. DeFractionalization is the actual way the partition is formatted to facilitate forcing the CPU to work in a certain way with data in that partition. Of course you also need Software to maintain this enforcement, as Entropy is the order of the day.

I definitely agree about the LPSUs. For anything audio related this makes a huge difference.

I do have an 200W HD Plex LPSU which I have been using with my headphone setup and thought I would try that with the NAS. Another option could be an Sbooster I am getting very good results with the Auralic Mini. The only hindrance is that I need to determine what this NAS power port connector is called to buy an adapter:

What kind of LPSUs are your buddies preferring?

Did you have a thought how to include this into an audio setup?

HD Plexes mainly and Paul Hynes. SBooster is very good too. In the US I see people using refurbed Acopians.

Some also use Vinnie Rossi/Uptone LPS-1, Teradak and Keces. Not sure Teddy Pardo is still available.

For less Money, there are some quality Chinese on EBay using Talema transformers abnd more premium parts like from seller Minishow.

No, because you would need proprietary software as we discussed. IDEAS 1.

Ok, duly noted. So that would still require a separate server between the NAS and the Nyquist I presume.

These male connector cables?

Some cuttin' and a splicin' may be needed.

Edit, this one should be perfect for you.

Actually, here is CH in my Commune, there is HEAVY recycling (Germany should be similar). In our dechetterie, ther is a huge bin for old electrical cable. I wager there is a 50% chance that such aa cable could be found there at any given time.
That is so Eco...I never thought of that before...much better/faster/cheaper than waiting week for EBay shipments!

No, your NAS would be both the Server and the SAN. It is a 4 core processor, so will work....if you use Windows.

These?

The end part of it [emoji3].

I don’t know how the 4-pin connector is called, so it is difficult to search for an adapter.

But I sent Larry from HD Plex a picture, maybe he can help.

4-pin DC power cable connector. I have an LPSU with this on the PS output end, not the entry to the target Appliance.

I need to see a pix the entire NAS power setup you have now...

I think you need to have the HDPlex feeding the NAS directly, otherwise it does not help.

But just another example of HDPlex customer orientation: quick mail to Larry, paid via PayPal the same day and the cable connecting the HDPlex and to the NAS is on its way.

That’s how I like it.

It’s actually fascinating when you can hear technical tweaks: I pimped up the NAS with another 4 GB to its max. RAM capability and added an on-board 250 GB SSD for additional cache.

The thing is now lightning fast, starting to play before I can get my finger off the play button.

Ok, understand. 4 core yes, but at least for now a Linux machine.
