Does anyone have these, has anyone heard these? comparisons? Thx

I think Fremer reviewed them in the current Stereophile issue. I don't believe he was super impressed and the company made a page and a half rebuttal in the Manufacturer's comments section. The review has not yet been posted on Stereophile's website as of yet. Also worth noting that John Atkinson said they measured very well. JA is going to be doing a follow up on Fremer's review which will be coming out in the summer some time.

Thanks I was aware of that but I was hoping that someone either actually has them , had experience with them or actually heard them.

Hi

I have them and have compared them to some other amplifier. Pass labs XS150 160.5 100.5 Krell ARC .. I can say they are some of the best I have heard if not the best,

I heard them last weekend at Axpona. They were paired with the M1 DAC and Tidal Piano Cera (I think) speakers (which were a little bright for me on some occasions; diamond tweeters). The amps BLEW me away. They had a veritable zero noise floor...black....silence....void. They were dynamic as hell and mined some of the most musical low frequencies I'd ever heard. I was there with Jared Sacks (we had just done a DSD seminar downstairs and were visiting Brian Zolner, Bricasti President). We played some of Jared's to-be-released Mahler 9 and it was emotionally draining until the diamond tweeter got me a little on the horns....something that didn't happen here on my Aerial 20Ts when Jared listened to my system for the past 3 days as my house guest. But...no way my amps compared to the M28, and my amps are pretty damn good Modwright KWA-150 monoblocks. :) I am praying I can get the amps and DAC in for review.

Yeah, I'd love to hear them on our system -- but it would require four and oodles of cash! :lookatthat:

I heard them at Axpona as well. I thought the system was phenomenal, probably my favorite of the show. By the way the speakers were the now discontinued Tidal Piano Diacera Diamonds. My only reservation is that I only heard the system play classical music.

Stereophile just posted Fremer's review online...here it is: Bricasti Design M28 monoblock power amplifier | Stereophile.com

I believe the Bricasti folks are ex-Mark Levinson designers/engineers/execs. Is it me or is the aesthetic (black on silver, the look and feel of the silver buttons, the font of the silkscreening, etc...) very reminiscent of the ML aesthetic?

No, it's not just you. Bricasti products including their excellent M1 DAC definitely have a similar cosmetic appearance to ML gear. The Stereophile review of the M28 amps by Michael Fremer is not entirely positive, while John Atkinson's measurements were superb and showed their measured performance to exceed that of MF's reference amps. As such, JA has already stated elsewhere that he has the amps in his possession and will be posting a follow-up review in an upcoming issue.

They sounded great at Axpona. The Bricasti-Tidal room was my favorite. The combination was magical. I could find no fault in the sound. The system had perfect synergy.

For Ted B, re: "I am praying I can get the amps and DAC in for review."

Get in where for review?

For Nile49, Re: "My only reservation is that I only heard the system play classical music."

Had to chuckle, Classical was all we listened to and thought the M28s were fantastic.

For Mechnutt: Re: "They sounded great at Axpona. The Bricasti-Tidal room was my favorite. The combination was magical. "

Totally agree

As cmalak was nice to mention, the review is posted on the Stereophile website here: Bricasti Design M28 monoblock power amplifier | Stereophile.com

And since skolis kindly posted a capture of the manufacturer's comments on WBF which were not included on the Stereophile website but are very relevant, here is an enlarged version of that image:

I also have some good news. Bricasti president Brian Zolner is looking at flying in for a special open house here where we will have the M28 amplifiers on demonstration, date to be set soon. The event will be announced on our website, and everyone is invited.

We heard some Fleetwood Mac, Jazz annd Classical in the Bricasti room. I would have no reservations buying the amps or DAC. If either of these pieces was weak, they would not have made those Tidal speakers sound so good.

+1....but I thought the Tidal speakers sounded excellent too.

I own a pair of M28's and I have been extremely pleased and continually impressed. I have found them to be stellar in every regard. I read the stereophile review but have to say my experience has been a little to contrary. I've had the amps now for 3 or 4 months but even in the first week, I found there to be very little audible change in terms of break in. My amps had approximately 30 hours on them I was told from the manufacture prior to my receipt of them. But otherwise, my experience has echoed that of everyone else who has posted here on this thread. The dynamic range, transparency and musicality of these amps is second to none. I have found the transient response to be very sharp with an exacting accuracy. The review mentioned a soft competent and while I haven't spent time with the Solution 710, that comment has left me scratching my head. Nonetheless, I have positive encouragement as an owner to give these babies a listen for yourself.

Setup: Wadia s7i, Bricasti M1 DAC, Bricast M28's, ATC SCM100ASLT (passive), Kimber Select Copper/Silver Hybrid Interconnects & Speaker, Kimber Select Silver AES/EBU and Kimber Palladian Power Cables.

I have each amp on an isolated 20 amp circuit home run back to my main panel with number 8's trying to maximize power availability at the source.

Hi bmmcoy - I'm a new ATC owner (just the small 7s). You have a dream setup there.

Gus

Brian,

You should suggest to Brian Zolner to re- think the way he protects the amplifier, as it is , it's really an 8 ohm drive amplifier, since most 8 ohm nominal speakers will sometimes see 4 ohm or below as z-min or via phase angles. A 4 ohm nominal loudspeaker could see z-min below 2 ohm for the same reasons. At this price point not being able to Drive a 2ohm load past 10-11 amps is a let down and i can see customers having issues with this if the amp should shut Down on them, not to mention it has been my experience , amplifiers which are over protected like this, tend to sound , well , polite and restricted. This could be what Fremer is alluding to.

Aside, the test measurements by JA, showed a well designed amp into 8/4 ohm , excellent as a matter of fact , not sure why Bricasti would chose to limit such an amplifier like this ...

Regards..

Would you happen to have an impedance graph on your ATC ? Curious ..
