What about Krell? Back in the 90's they seem to be out with new products and well represented, now I hardly see them mentioned. Are they ever at any of the shows?

Is Spectral still in business?

Plinius

Tidal is usually at Axpona but I don't see them on the forums much. Good sounding gear from what I can tell, Doug always plays "audiophile" type music, stuff to meditate to. He needs to take a lesson from MBL :)

2nd Jeff Rowland. I met him last year. A friend & I wandered into a listening room and he was there showing his gear. We don't get out much so we were sort of excited to shake a hand and talk. Jeff was quiet, and I got the impression he may have been wondering, what's wrong with these guys, LOL.

From someone who knows Doug personally, I know he takes requests.

Doug is one of the best guys in the business and his rooms always sound great.

Except for exaSound everything else is available in my country... I probably have higher expectations! :D

I still have a Win Labs strain-gauge phono cart. I think strain-gauge carts. should be talked about more because from my experience, they are far better than MM or MC carts. Do a Google search on strain-gauge phono carts.

I will, I've never heard of it. I wonder if anyone is even using it today. Hoping you aren't talking about those dreaded ceramic carts, LOL

Historically there have only been a few great strain gauge cartridges, one of which was the Win Labs you have. They definitely have their proponents but have limited availability in the market. One I'm aware of that is currently available is from SoundSmith ranging in price from $8,600 to $13,000 including the required dedicated SG "pre-amp". Other vintage designs are sometimes seen on auction sites but condition and unavailability of new styli can be an issue.

Yeah, I had a little argument with SoundSmith over at AudioAsylum and got him upset. He was promoting his cartridges and when he mentioned his prices on his strain gauges, like $8,600 to $13,000, depending on the sg pre-amp, I told him 'no wonder nobody has heard of them, you're selling them way out of people's budgets'. As I recall I paid about $450 for my Win Labs. This got him mad. Actually, there is no reason to ask for such a high price, the weight of the cart. is so light, there is almost nothing there. It's all in the phono pre-amp which doesn't look like anything fancy because there is nothing much in the little box either. Still, through the years, it has always been my favorite cart. and Win has offered to re-tip it for me.
