You can always get more opinions about gear from the box swapper. Keeps Agon up and running. Lowers pricing on used gear for the non box swapper. Many benefits the box swapper provides

Even as the worlds biggest box swapper - that was crazy - even for me.

Yes Mike, I'd like to have ALOT more input on my future purchases from you.....lmao. By the way, I heard Mike's new Strad/Pass combo the other night. WOW. I have never heard such resolve.....multiple micro levels of depth......and king kong control of every note. It is amazing. I could even hear the distance between each key on piano runs. I was bowled over by this level of detail. This system may have too much detail, if that is possible. I was so blown away by the beauty/detail of each note, that I wasn't paying attention to the music. I'm sure my mind would eventually allow me hear the music as a whole at some point.......but the playback at this level of perfection was the best I've ever heard.
And this is in his torture chamber of a sound room, upstairs. Locals need to check out Mike's new system for sure.

You're right on all points, David. I have greatly benefited purchasing barely used equipment from box swappers at a huge discount. The box swapper also has tried so many components in their system that they can provide valuable feedback. Long live the box swapper!

This has been a great thread and I have been rethinking my earlier comments. I started thinking about Cigar nuts and collectors of Whiskey after reading about an auction in a recent Wine Mag. With the Cigars, after you smoke them, you can't trade the butt in on a fresh one so even though you enjoyed it, you are out 100%. I was also amazed to hear of people bidding $550K on an old bottle of whiskey he had no idea what it tastes like, nor did he ever intend to open it, but resell it later for a profit. If he opens the bottle, aside from the enjoyment of an expensive bottle, he is out 100%.
So at least in this hobby, the swappers get great enjoyment and fun, and then recoup a major portion of the monies to put towards the next pc of fun. It all makes sense

Remember I handed you the album cover?We only heard the first minute or so of the DSD recording of Mahler Symphony No. 2 and a song by the Cowboy Junkies (recorded in the church)...I guess, maybe one or two others....but 90% was that Vanessa Fernandez LP.
I guess that speaks to how quiet the Kronos turntable is!

I can't speak for all audiophiles that run through a lot of gear, but in my case, a lot of gear has indeed spent short stints in my system. Just wanted to make one quick point about this because I think it's misunderstood. I don't buy gear to keep, I buy gear to audition. After the audition I decide if I should keep the piece. Sometimes I marry a piece after the audition period, but just like most audiophiles don't marry most gear they audition in a B&M store, I don't marry most gear I audition in my home. I just prefer long in home auditions to high pressure short auditions in B&M stores. So I buy gear, try it for a few weeks in my home. Sometimes I know in the first week it's not a keeper and it goes right back on the market. Other times the audition will last 8, 12, or 16 weeks. Sometimes it takes that long to really get to know a component. At least it does for me (contrary to the 10 second rule).
Just like many of you, my wife was bewildered by my gear rotation. UNTIL I explained the previous paragraph to her. Now it's clear, I'm auditioning a piece. Now she get's it and we are both happier for it. It's not like buying a TV. For me auditioning gear is a major part of this hobby and a LOT of fun.
Currenlty auditioning a Devialet 200 (in my home).
+1. Sometimes you pick up gems, sometimes you pick it up and realize it was all hype. Hey, but that's part of being a audiphille, no?
