I just put this one on the ''what are you listening to tonight thread'' but I guess this is thread is more fitting.
So here I go again:
I.M.O. the best audiophile jazz influenced blues album of 2013.
The two Robert Johnson covers are incredible. ''Love in vain'' has been transformed into a Jazz ballad but managing to keep the feel of longing and desperation intact.
You can listen to the mp3 except here: Carmen Gomes Inc - Torn (SE)
What do you think?
Hey! :hi:
* Cassandra; isn't she Jazz oriented?
Nope, she is everything! ...Jazz, Soul, Folk, Blues, International.

Torn was inspired partly by the tragic marriage of a close friend coming to an end and a strong artistic need for getting back to basics, The Blues. In a sense it is a concept album. The 9 songs follow each other in a logical order telling the story of a relationship falling apart. ''Come on in My Kitchen'' representing the initial attraction and the ''Thrill is Gone'' the end of love. Carmen Gomes
The Torn album and Carmen Gomes has received white spread critical acclaim:
Her warm, enormously talented and controlled voice is completely unique and she knows how to get pure emotion across to the listener ...
The sound of the album is exemplary with dynamics of an addictive quality......the drums are practically visual and one feels as if one could reach out and and actually touch the singer.

Gomes Sings “You better come on into my kitchen, ‘cause it’s going to be raining outdoors” and what a wondrous musical kitchen she possesses.
The utensils are the thoughtfully played musical notes. The chef is Carmen herself, serving a dream-like melodic delicacy. We at Adore Jazz, play the music from Gomes’ new CD “Torn” with great joy.

Got lucky found it in a2nd hand bin!Played "Helen Humes and the Muse All Stars" LP today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended!
I love it:Mas - Nice find, let us know how you like it. I love her duet with Eddie 'Cleanhead' Vinson on the first track! Not audiophile recording quality but it's very engaging.
I couldn't agree more. Old pros showing how it's done.Helen Humes's return to an active singing career was one of the happier events in jazz of the late '70s. Able to give great feeling and sensitivity to ballads but also a superb lowdown blues singer, Humesflourished musically during her last years. On this excellent release (the CD reissue adds two alternate takes to the original program), Humes matches wits with altoist/singer Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson on "I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town" and is in top form throughout. Tenors Arnett Cobb andBuddy Tate (along with a fine rhythm section led by pianist Gerald Wiggins) don't hurt either. An enthusiastic "Loud Talking Woman" and "My Old Flame" are highpoints.
