Best Music Format We've Ever Had... Since the Last One -|- High Fidelity Pure Audio... On Blu-ray Audio

I think I might pick up Beck's Sea Change. I have this on DVD-A and it would be interesting to see if there is any difference between the two.

Matt, I already have the CD (HDCD), the DVD-Audio, and the SACD. ...Beck - Sea Change
{The DVD-Audio is MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing) encoded at 88.2kHz/24-bit for both stereo and multichannel audio tracks, plus Lossy DD surround sound, for DVD-Video players | Mixed by Elliot Scheiner and mastered by Bob Ludwig.}

I'm just missing the LP, the cassette tape, and that new High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-ray. :D

* I think I'll search for new Muzik instead.

When I get my TT, I'm going to hunt down a copy on vinyl. They seem to be getting pretty hard to find without paying an arm and a leg.

You are missing the DSD rip too.

Oh, not another one! Best format we've ever had? That's kind of a subjective item, isn't it? Many folks prefer one format over another and everyone is different. Some say vinyl is the best, some say Hi-Rez, some say SACD, some say CD-HD, some say MP3, some say DVD-A, etc. I've never heard SACD or CD-HD. I have one or two DVD-As I have not heard yet (I need to get to that). Of all the formats I've heard to date (vinyl, CD, Hi-Rez, MP3,cassette,reel to reel, FLAC) I can say that to me, the best is vinyl, CD and reel to reel, not in any particular order). I can't absolutely say one format trumps all others to my ears. The three I named all have their points. Now these days I don't have vinyl gear set up except on my vintage rig which is just the TT plugged into the receiver. (I haven't played vinyl on it for several months). I also do not have reel to reel anymore. So right now I'm using CD exclusively. To me it's better than Hi-Rez and all the new formats, not counting the ones I have not heard.

True Norman.

* By the way; Beck - Sea Change is fun in hi-res multichannel audio. ...Enveloping, appropriately speaking.
The stereo CD (HDCD encoded) is pretty good in its own right.

SACD is a niche market, DVD-Audio is an extinct species, and Blu-ray Audio is a new music venture business, another niche market. It will not survive outside that very restricted niche.
But fun nonetheless to see what's out there and compared to other hi-res music formats (downloads and all).
...And also, to see the prices' competition (fix or no fix).

Anyway, I truly doubt (for a guy like me always on the edge of the latest developing and improving technologies) that Blu-ray Audio has a leg over analog vinyl.
If you happen to have a high-end audio system you want the very best source playback to honor it (justified the all around karma), and a turntable (or R-2-R tape deck) is the dignified music source playback of choice for serious music lovers and all. Besides, albums (records) are sold everywhere now, and for great prices too.
Even with an aging cartridge in play, there is still that sense of body that no digital rig can embody, even ultra high-end ones.
And Stereo (2-channel) is THE standard from which all rules have to be abided by.
Multichannel (5.1-ch) music is simply for not serious people who like to be outside of the law.

Methinks that they should release them High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-rays (Audio) with only a stereo 2-channel track,
if they truly have to be taken seriously, and if they want to compete with LPs.
...Or people won't simply bother at all and just listen to MP3 format.

What do you think? Don't be shy, tell it your own way just like it is.

P.S. In case, there is some extrapolated sense of humor here just above. ...Obviously.

There are people out there who think MP3's sound the best? Poor lost souls...

Believe it or not, there are.....the youngins. Example: There's a girl clerk at a grocery store I frequent and just one of the nicest people walking this worthless lump of rock. Always genuinely super friendly to me (not corporate lines or behavior), just a very pleasant individual. I had my old Onkyo CD player that still worked good in spite of the tendency to eat discs if one was not careful. I tried to give it to her and she stated that she prefers listening to music with her phone (MP3s) and has no use for CDs. She's a youngin so it came as no surprise. I wish I could broaden her horizons by introducing her to formats like CDs and such and more importantly to styles of music, but it seems she's not all that interested and I don't know the type of music she listens to or how much she is into music. That's life and we don't have the kind of relationship to accommodate that anyway of course.
Point is that there are many youngins out there who have never even heard of CD, vinyl, etc. That's ok though, more for us!

I picked up this Mahler Symphony--sounds way better than the RBCD--wider stereo spread, deeper bass, and overall warmer yet clearer sound.
