Axpona 2017 Official Pictures & Report Thread

....You would have loved the show....

possibly...it would've been nice to meet the Pass folks (and you!), but until I'm ready to swap out my B&Ws for Magicos, I'm not ready to make any changes. And when that happens, that'll be a trip to Sarasota, not Chicago! Plus, I go to Chicago every other month, mostly for concerts anymore. Murray Perahia at Orchestra Hall in a week! Perot $$$ built Dallas' Meyerson, but acoustics and performers still far far superior in Chicago.

Saw Perahia do Beethoven's 1 and 3 here in London, had booked for 2 and 4, as well as 5, but was unable to leave work in time and tickets went waste. As for B&W the new 802 D3s are nice.

No. See above. Bright. Forward. Others agreed.

Well.....you think what they had driving the Paradigm could be part of the problem? You would think if they've got $35k worth of speakers they'd put some serious amps to drive them.

For better or worse, Jason puts the hammer down on several rooms at Axpona. This kind of commentary is all but extinct today. Whether you agree or disagree with his comments, I will say, it's interesting.

Yeah Jason is good value. Nice guy too. It's a shame with Axpona being so big he couldn't get to the Magico room. It would have been good to hear his impressions on the S3 Mk2's & extensive Magico supports (ie: SPods, Mpods, MRacks) :audiophile:.

If he couldn't get into the Magico S3 room, I assure you it was when they were playing vinyl or digital. Peter and Dave did an amazing job with the vinyl and digital and when they were in control of the sources, the room was PACKED. I couldn't even get near the doorway.

The tape cleared the room. It was boring as heck recordings and didn't sound good. I swear that deck needs an overhaul. The guy running the R2R is a nice guy, but I didn't care for the music he recorded nor the deck (and by observation, not many did either).

As for CH, it wasn't the best pairing I've heard with Magico. But Melbguy1 has already alluded to that.

No holding back there it appears. [emoji3]

The comments on Raidho/ Aavik were a bit of a surprise.

IMO, reviewers shouldn't be bashing rooms at audio shows. It's a miracle that any system sounds good in a hotel room. Those are the ones we should talk about. I can't imagine spending the time and money to haul a mega-expensive system and set it up in a hotel room and expect to blow away people with great sound. I hear far, far more bad sound at shows than good sound. If your goal is to beat on rooms that sound bad at an audio show, it's like shooting fish in a barrel.
