Does this include a world class DAC or is this a fancy music server (without a DAC)?

Yes it's not for the faint of heart. Am I insane for wanting to hear one :weird:.

It doesn't get much fancier than this. Start saving for the cables; dual AES, BNC for the word clock, oh yeah and a lowly power cord.

I'd love to hear one too, but I'd hope that I don't like it :)

No dac. Just music server. However, they do build their own motherboard which is something I don't think any music server out there does.

He does not mince words here:

"The Aurender W20 has displaced the CAPS v3 Carbon server in my system and is without a doubt the best music server I've used to date."

Sure reads damn good. Looks like the only way to go if your not going to go w the streamer philosophy!

Anybody want to buy my caps 3.0 w battery backup?

I'd be bleating given the multiplier if it didn't outperform a CAPs V3, even one with a shielded Gigabyte Sniper board. Is it magnificently better?

Interesting, especially if you consider the fact that it got lukewarm reviews from 6moons and HiFi Critic. Chris seems to know more about computers though.

We will be demonstrating the Aurender W20 and X100L music servers in our room at the upcoming AXPONA show here in Chicago, going into the Bricasti M1 DAC.

I'm one of the last people to be throwing the conspicuous consumption card around but damm, 17k. I own an S10. I think Aurender makes good stuff, but damm aren't computers supposed to be getting cheaper.

We could start a whole new thread on that topic! The price of audio gear is doubling and tripling. Is this like the housing market circa 2006/07?

At some point, we have to look at the technology pragmatically.

Where is E? Doesn't he have the E Machine? I would like to know his thoughts.

Me? I'm still on cloud 9 with my Lumin!

So true but as a wise person once said, 'if you built it he will come', but I think it has to be few in those actually do come (purchase) due to the cost it takes to support the few. If the prices were lower and the quality is there to support the formats the more you sell has to drive the production cost lower , but maybe that only applies to the BIG companies, that purchase components by bulk, like Sony's etc....

The W20 at $17,000 plus a dac plus some dCS stuff comes to what $??

Crazy expensive- the Lumin is looking like a much saner choice, at least for those who don't already have $150,000+ invested in their system!.
Have you heard it? Didn't think so, but why would that stop you from armchair quarterbacking? I am disappointed. And not including all of the phono cartridges, cabling, etc. your system cost approaches the figure you give.

One doesn't have to have dCS components in the system to use a W20 and appreciate its performance. I demo and use a Bricasti M1 DAC ($9k) with it here, total cost including high performance cabling well under $30k. And for those who don't care to spend that much, there are other models.
