Aurender Owners

But wait, you say; with an installed 1T SSD...you can store files inside the unit, with the N100. Correct; and that's a "better" option, IMO. But I think that's going to prove more expensive, than a X100S.
The appropriate 1TB SSD is $400 plus sales tax. That plus $2499 for the N100 is less than $2999 for the X100S, which obviously makes the X100S less attractive a purchase.

Can't say I disagree. Huh...why'd they do that? :doubtful:

The N10 is back on AURENDER web site, with now 4 To of Internal storage. This is good news.

Also,

- I now see that the N10 can do "On-the-fly precision DSD to PCM Conversion by FPGA ». This is very interesting with NON-DSD DACs.

-> Is the N10 the only Aurender with such feature ?

- The N10 is twice the price of the X100L for less storage !! Besides the extra output (X100 has ONLY USB), what is implemented in the N10 that make it better than the X100L ? On USB ONLY, will the N10 sound better than the X100L ? Why ?

My aim is still to test the Aurender against the Aria and compare them to my Oppo 105 transport. But my gut feeling is that this part of the audio industry is changing so quickly that buying into into it is some what of a gamle. Will it be obsolete in a year or two. Will it be MQA compatible or will MQA or any other format ever take off. Is DSD even an issue in 2 years? And prices. Boy will they drop over the coming years when comparing price/performance. 10 000 USD is the price tag for a N10 here in Sweden and that is stiff. I am sure it is sublime, but the uncertainty is killing some of its glory. Paying the same money for a set of speakers or an amp is a very different story IMO.

The W20 has it, too.

Better power supplies, for example. I have the X100L and the N10 here and can demonstrate them side by side.

Yes, but probably not because of the USB output itself, rather everything else in it which improves the performance.

I just installed a Kenneth Lau linear power supply on my x100l. I can't adequately explain the improvement in detail, transparency, air, and timber. It drew a big smile from everyone listening- pre/post installation.
In the Bill Evens Trio-Waltz for Debbie ,it was easy to hear where the drummer was hitting the cymbal . The bass was firmer in Bela Fleck's -Cosmic Hippo.I enjoyed a bunch of my reference material with the update.
I am extremely happy with the AURENDER . I am so glad i called Mike ,and listened to his advise!

Hi Brian,

I'm sure the Aurender music servers (N100, X100, N10 and W20) sound superior to my stock Mac Mini but they lack some of its versatility. They only have one audio USB output when my Mac Mini has four. There are many folks who own multiple DACs now. Additionally, with the appropriate software loaded, my Mac Mini can play DSD 256 (not much out there currently but the playlist is growing) and do PCM to DSD conversion. I can also use the latest/greatest sounding software (i.e. HQPlayer). These are items I consider to be important when I'm spending thousands on a music server. No tomatoes please!

Ken

To add to Ken's question, does anyone know if it is anticipated (or possible) that DSD 256 or PCM 384 kHz will at some point be available via a firmware upgrade?

Very interesting, I also own the X100L. Can you explain the process of "installing" the new power supply. What is the list price for this power supply? Thanks.

The installation is plug and play. You open the top of the aurender . Unplug two jst connectors. Then take the 6 screws off the back panel. You take out the screws holding the iec socket, and install the included dc input socket ,plug the new jst connector and re-intall back plate and top.plug the supplied cord in from the ps and you done.
20 minutes.
the are 2 versions.i asked him to score the ps on a scale of 1-10.stock unit- 5, base version -7($800-i think),deluxe version 0-9($1200).That includes shipping to florida.Takes about 2 weeks.
The improvements are remarkable.Email me if you want me to forward my correspondence with Kenneth.
The construction is like a piece of art.The mundorf capacitor is huge, copper floor, and a transformer that is substantial .The unit is real heavy.

Thanks!!!! Sounds MUCH simpler than I anticipated. Hmmmm

Yes, I should think future firmware upgrades will add higher sampling rates such as DSD256. But sufficient content is needed first.

I am a fan of ROON. Is there a chance that ROON will be integrated in AURENDER's App ?

Yes...but nothing will happen until Roon releases their SDK (Software Development Kit). Aurender is a partner with Roon. They are VERY leading edge.
