AudioQuest Fog Lifters

I'm not saying these have lifted my system to another level. They are as they appear. They lift my cables from my floor. Much of this hobby is aesthetics and how it makes one feel about a system. This to me is just a inexpensive touch and care item to my system.

And most of the fog these days is in my head! :)

I’ve found they make a difference on carpeted floors.

Really? How do you go about obtaining "very fixed" cables? How does that improve the sound?
Well at least it would stop them from vibrating.
With the cable lifters, the cables act just like guitar strings.
And those cable lifters act just like static electricity collectors.
Static electricity loves high resistance insulator standoffs.

So I should bond the Fog Lifters to the carpeted floor in your opinion in order get any real benefits?

I can´t really tell you. You must try.
Mike gave you an idea

SpeedSkater, from what i read from you, i think we are in opposite sides in audio.
I don´t know if you´re serious but what you´re saying is my point.
The difference will more evident depending the weight of the lifters and the weight and the geometry of the cable(s) and their damping factor.

Ok, I'll bite, tell me how the weight of the lifters are going to effect sound ?????

What kind of fog did you have that has now disappeared?

Come on 'Dr Spock', inquiring minds want to know !

I see you are a little impatient!
Well, if you really think about eliminating vibrations, you will certainly agree that mass/weight is a very important factor.

A friend of mine, from experience to experience, arrived at some home made lifters, in granite. There are two pieces that fit and tighten the cables in the middle, and which according to him guarantee not only the elevation of the floor but also a good compression, ensuring that the cables do not "move" at all, again according to him with audible effects in the cleanliness of the sound.
Vibrations are one of the most important factors in audio.

WOW, I've got it, the fog has lifted, time to set sail ...............

I don't have AQ fog lifters, but do have Russ Andrews Cable Elevators. If you have wood floors the RA can be screwed into it. This said, they do absolutely nothing for the sonic quality of the system. However, aesthetically they match my Quadrasphire racks. I was able to try the Shunyata Cable Lifts and they did seem to make a small difference sonically.

In Audioquest site we can read about Fog Lifters:

“Place an absolute minimum of solid material in direct contact with the cable”

and

“…efforts to isolate cable with stands or clamps that themselves have too much mass and are sources of RF Noises”

So, the question of the mass is there, even if it is the opposite that I claim. Can I?

Spock,

That sounds, well.... I guess I need somebody to explain how an inert (wood, plastic, ceramic or rubber) and passive (no electricity) device sitting upon the floor acts on or becomes a source of RF noise, regardless of mass.

Edit: I just read the manufactures description on their website. Not going to discount what they believe but having difficulty understanding capacitive coupling in this sense.
