Congrats! You'll be very happy with it. Be patient with break in.

I'm not sure I understand the question.

Mike,

you have posted a picture from Focal Scala V2 with a Devialet as power amplifier.... in your picture the Focal are connect to the Devialet with a speaker cable from Kimber KS: I think is a KS6063. -> is correct or is another version? ( ex. 6065....)

I use a Kimber Monocle XL in my system and i will replace it with a KS3033 or with a WireWorld SilverEclipse 7.
(I use too the WW Silver Eclipse 7 as interconnnects XLR)

Yes, that is correct. I have the Kimber Select 6063, but I am selling it and moving to Siltech since its a brand I carry. I had no issues at all with the Kimber/Devialet/Focal synergy. In fact, it was quite excellent.

I owned a REF5SE…Used it with a McIntosh MC452 and Sonus Faber Evos. Great preamp. I loved it and would like to own another ARC preamp some day.

Congrats on the Ref 5SE  When I saw you are partnering it with a Pass amp at first I was hesitant because in the .5 amps the input impedance of those amps via the XLR connections I believe was 20Kohms which is the minimum load that ARC recommends for its preamps. I believe the 0.8 amps now have an input impedance of 50Kohms via balanced (XLR) connection, so there should be no impedance mismatching. Have you already received the Ref 5SE? It sounds like you already prefer it the XP-20 and XP-30 pres from Pass but wasn't sure if you arrived at this conclusion just via demos or if you have lived with the Ref 5SE in your system for a while and have been able to compare it to the XP-20/30 pres which I presume you owned one of prior to the 5SE?

That is one pairing I am intrigued by - ARC tube pre with a Pass Class A amp (most of them are mono amps I guess).

Congratulations Omar! The REF5SE is a wonderful preamp. I think you will love it. I had the opportunity to listen to one with the REF250 and the Vandersteen 7 and it sounded incredible. It also has a wonderful synergy with the Pass Labs amps from what I've been told. Please give us your impressions once it has broken in.

Best of luck,
Ken

Congrats DB33 on your Ref 5SE :celebrate008_2:If I was looking for a balanced tube preamp, that would be in my top 3 pre's to audition. Love the look with the traditional green lcd display. You can also upgrade the tubes later with either cryo'd EH 6H30 gold pins, NOS 6H30DR's or a mixture of both.

Btw i've read this preamp benefits from good isolation both underneath & on the top lid. I use Stillpoints Ultra feet & an Ultra LPI on my equipment which work great.

Cheers,
Bodhi

Hi Bodhi,

I hope all is well with you. How is it going with your new Vitus Digital Player? Is it breaking in nicely?

Hi Ken,

Yeah I've been well thanks. Due to the tight space behind my racks (which are located under a staircase) & the fact I was waiting for my order of Stillpoints Ultra 6's to arrive, I haven't actually connected my player yet. However my dealer advised me the order has been held up due to the Easter break, so I'm biting the bullet & setting up my rig this weekend. Admittedly it hasn't been easy staring at the Vitus box in my living room! The upshot is i'll now be able to compare the difference between the U5's & U6's under my gear which will be interesting!

Cheers,
David.

Hallo Bodhi,
I have listen the REF5se with my monos XA100.8 and the soundstage is another world vs. what can do a Pass Xp20 and Xp30 too.

before my target was the Pass Xp30 but make sure a improvement vs the xp20 but not so much.... ( the price difference from the Xp20 and a Xp30 is not like the $$$ to pay.... -> improvement with a XP30 has not the value of the price paid to have it.)

the match Pass and ARC is very great.

Ritmo with your REF5se and the Dag stereo (too with Wilson speaker) give him a very good sound!!! IMHO much better from a combo DAG pre and power ampli.
tube give you a open sound like not others.

I will buy too the spyke for the REF5se: the Nordost Sort kone are not good? Stillpoint are not so easy to have where I am....

I go invest $$ in a new cd player.
Ken you have the K01 or? you use it too as Dac for listen HD musicfile? -> a NAS center and with USB cable to your computer?
a K03x (here the "old" K03 is no more available (only remains of the warehouse or demo...)
a K05 and DAC like Meitner MA1 or too the Vitus can be a good choice....

thanks

Check out the T+A PDP 3000HV - CD/SACD/DSD DAC. There is a review of it in last months HiFi News. They gave it one of their highest scores ever.

That's what I just bought and love it.

uhmm T+A sound is very "German sound"...I have listen the T+A 3000Serie and I dont like it.

a TAD DA1000 or TAD A1000 is better for my taste.

Interesting. Not sure what "German sound" means. Have you heard the PDP3000HV? It's very sweet. HiFi news nailed it when they said "it sounds just right." Personally, I found TAD to be very sterile/clinical/hard sounding, not musical at all. Oh well, different strokes...
