Ascending to even greater heights

My Everest arrived this morning, it’s been in the system for a few hours and already it’s obvious that this a very significant upgrade.
It replaced a Denali and I’m using the Denali’s Sigma EF to the wall.
I really like the silver faceplate, it matches my system very nicely, which the Denali never did.

Looks great. Beautiful system, too!

I would say it took me all of...5 seconds to hear how much better Everest is than Denali V2. And, it just has gotten better from there.

What stood out to me in comparison to the Triton v3: (1) vastly decreased noise floor, (2) highs are no longer rolled off (it wasn't major with the Triton but it was there) and (3) increased speed (which allows instruments to sound more natural).

Yeah, Everest is just...insane.

First time I heard it I was saying, "G*dd*mmit, Caelin, now I have to buy this!" :D Heheheh. And this was coming from a Denali V2 powered by a Sigma NRv2. Which is no slouch.

It's sooo good; it's just ridiculous how good it is. As I first mentioned when it debuted, it's like going from a Porsche GT2 RS Manthey Racing to a Porsche 919 Evo Hybrid. Jeez...

I picked up a demo Everest from my local dealer today. The box had never been opened and I basically just inserted it where my Denali had been. The dealer didn’t have the newer PC’s so I just used the Alpha HÇ I had been using. To be truthful I was not expecting a significant improvement over the Denali since no power amps were involved just my pre-amp and my dCS units. Immediately I knew something was different. The sound “seemed” more expansive and possibly with greater weight. This was with no break-in at all.

Color me surprised. More to come.

Great to hear this Jim. Mine is fully broken in now and with the Omega XC, has taken my system at home to a whole new level. Just when I thought the Denali 6000s/v2 would be difficult to improve on....!!

Yeah, I used to think that, too, Mike.

Little did I know...:P

Caelin back in May you posted to say there would not be a horizontal version of the Everest, is this still the case?

We have no plans for a shelf type Everest.

However, for those that want or need a 'reference level' shelf format, something is coming.

I have all of ours on the floor. Never thought the need to add something else. I think Caelin already integrated something into the feet for this.

thy you two for the clear answer.

is it because the everest doesnt benefit from any stand?
i remember you did put your one on a stand.
do you think the nagra-base could even be bad?
maybe i would like it for optical reasons, the dimensions are perfect, 2cm longer and 7 wider than the everest.
i will decide tomorrow.

Once again, the answer is: it depends. Everyone has different types of floors made out of diffferent materials or construction methods; the entire set of devices function as a system, and because it is a system, the devices and other things, from a systems engineering perspective, can interact. I know that many folks in this hobby like like definitive answers, but in audio, there aren't any. You're going to have try different approaches.

Everest has superb vibration damping that Caelin engineered in. From the cabinet sides, to the receptables, to the footers and even the proprietary polymer that is on the bottom of the SS footers.

Given that Everest has superb intrinsic damping characteristics, it might be worth trying an isolation footers, e.g. Norm Varney's EVPs rather an mechanical grounding type of footer (e.g metal cones, spikes or Stillpoints) with it, either directly on the floor, or, on a good platform e.g a piece of slate, granite, rock maple, or bamboo.

EVPs:

My experience in general with the Shunyata PDs is they like a nice, solid platform to rest on that has mass. You want the simplest setup that works, so this may be just placing it directly on the floor as Mike does, or in my case, I placed it on a rock maple board resting on the standard cork & rubber antivibration pads.

I'll likely get in some more EVPs as I need to put a set under my REL sub, and I'll try just placing those direclty under Everest, or placing them under my rock maple board in place of the cork & rubber anti-vibration pads.

Here's a photo my current set-up:

With respect to your Nagra platform...try it and see what you think. Then, try it directly on the floor. Get a nice piece of hard wood, like maple, walnut, or bamboo, granite, or slate, and try it with that underneath Everest. Get some cork & rubber pads, or hard wooden blocks, and put those under the platform on the floor. Get some EVPs from A/V Roomservice and try those directly under Everest, or...as footers under the platform. Its likely going to sound different with all these different approaches. One of them will sound the best, but I can't tell you which ones will, you'll have to do some experimentation.

In that case, the concrete floor of my house would have infinitely greater mass than any other solid platform I care to think of that I might rest one of these things on.

Well, I would have liked to attach an image of my new Everest, but for some reason alone, I can enter a url, it doesn't give me the option to attach a local file

I think that if you click on”Go Advanced” you’ll find an option to add an attachment. Cannot claim it will work, as I’ve never tried it.

Thanks Steve, but in Advanced, the option to attach local file does not appear either.
Maybe Mike knows why
