Applying New Technology to an Old Composition

I never liked John Cage's compositions. He was my brother's professor at Princeton. I thought Cage was a schmuck. YMMV

4'33" is an insult to intelligence.

No, it isn't funny or intellectual either--on any level.

An insult to intelligence? I think he's trying to get people to think more intelligently. This is more about allowing others to see that there are no boundaries, that anything is possible and not to let others determine what is and isn't "right". I don't see this piece as a statement of what he's done, but as a statement as to what is to come.

^^^^ Sorry, but four and a half minutes of silence while soloists or orchestras sit there perched with their instruments, not playing a single note is an insult, not something to demonstrate that there are no boundaries. NOTHING of value came from him.

I'm not interested in hearing the audience cough, whisper to one another or clear their throats while the piece is "performed."

Lots of things are possible and a lot of it is crap.

4'33" is the emperor's new clothes.

Thankfully, he can't write any more of this crap.

Hopefully, time will filter this, as it has other inferior pieces, out of existence.
