Just found out about this jazzy band a few weeks ago and have been listening to lots of it. All the music appears to be recorded quite well and the youtube vids are good quality also.

Here is a 30 minute sampler of them live after a brief interview segment. Somewhere around the 5-6 minute mark, the Trumpeter uses a Wha Wha pedal and makes his horn sound like a guitar.

They are a bit unusual for a "group" in that they don't have a consistent line-up of players. Their officially released material is mostly live (good, IMO) but is of quite variable sound quality, mostly due to the mastering (some is good, most is overcompressed and "brickwalled" to varying degrees).

I had a customer recommend them them to me about a month ago. I haven't spent too much time listening to them yet, but I have enjoyed what I have heard.
I definitely plan to spend more time getting to know them.

They are my most recent "go-to" group. I found them about a year ago and have accumulated all their albums. Yes, sound quality is variable, but that's because they most often record live, with an audience. I saw them last summer downtown in NYC, and it was awesome live, on the pier.

Definitely recommended.

There are several other bands in the "NOLA Funk" organization. I would suggest checking this out if you like SP, especially Trombone Shorty and Special Providence.

I do like this group. Young musicians, fresh music and ideas. Hum I guess it was good enough for a Grammy in 2014 - Best R&B Performance. The wife and I will be seeing them in Jacksonville this month on the 27th at Jazz Fest

saw them on may 7 in buffalo and it was a great show. the best show i saw in a while. john

"All their albums"? :hey:I don't what this means? There are official downloads available for about 50 shows, and a bunch of these are also included in a box set (physical CD's) as well. I think they have 4 studio albums, and 7 or 8 "live" albums that weren't really concerts but rather recording sessions with an audience. Then there are some true live DVD's and the aforementioned live box set and the (for the most part) very good quality concert downloads.

Brian.......Thanks for the post and video. I will have to dig deeper into Snarky Puppy. This is good stuff. Their music reminds me a lot of the Yellowjackets who I have enjoyed for years.

Good for you! Snarky Puppy is a great band but really on their recordings they aren't half as good as the live gigs. I saw them two years in Tilburg, The Netherlands and that was a party! One of the best live concerts ever.
About one Month later I was lucky enough to see a concert of Ed Motta (check it out, fantastic as well) in Stuttgart, Germany and after the show the Snarky's came over to jam with Ed's band until after 2 at night.
Here is a photo of that gig in Tilburg:

I just discovered these guys tonight on YouTube and plan on getting their albums to dig deeper. The vids on YouTube are amazing. I checked out mostly the recording sessions with live audiences.

Loving it [emoji106]

PS: I know I'm late to the game but better late than never [emoji5]

I think there are a lots of good ideas and often a nice theme they play around. But so far I find them too messy, i.e. everyone is playing 'too much' and preventing emergence of a clearer structure. That makes the music a bit exhausting over time to my ears.

It is a bit like with speaking, sometimes silence is the stronger argument. But I'm sure the group will evolve.

It's worth seeking out some of Bill Laurance's (one of the rotating keyboard players) solo albums.

Also, all 30 of their 2017 concerts can be individually downloaded in 24/48 FLAC from their website, in addition to 50 more concerts on nugs.net (not all in 24 bit, most are 16/44.1) from earlier years

Great stuff, thanks for the rec. Currently watching some youtube vids. Very good pianist.
