I just robbed a bank (not really, just a "saying" FBI if you r listening) and ordered an UHA 11s-OPS tape deck.

Now I'm buying some tapes so when it gets built I have something to play.

I fell in love with them 4-5 years ago when I first heard them at an audio show. Just an amazing sound.

Anyway. Any suggestions on getting good tapes or anything I should know?????

I'm hot rodding it to only play 15ips and IEC equalization since that seems to be where the master tape copies are made in.

Tonight as I was buying a tape from Sweden my wife ask me what I was doing texting overseas and I told her buying a direct copy of a master tape. She looks at me and asks - "how are you going" and then stops herself and then continued "when is the tape deck going to show up" It was almost as good as when Mike was asking what color he should get the Alexia's and his wife said "why don't you ask the guy you are going to sell them to" They know us too well!!!

If it's Opus 3, you can order from Kevin Berg at Elusive disc. [email protected]. What type of music are you interested in? Congrats, you'll love the deck!

I like anything but county.

But I'm very ignorant with classical - but I like some. ?????? Driving blues is prob my fav but not by much.

Congratulations Jock! I grew up using my Dad's Sony RTR and thought it was fun. Can't wait for you to get yours.

Yes, just a newbie getting into tape. Nagra iv-s last year and have a few reels bought off a seller from poland. Just got a T audio deck that i'm fixing up to play recordings from the iv- s and several of the tape project reels. Addictive ;)

I highly recommend the Yarlung classical tapes, in particular Smoke and Mirrors, Antonio Lysy at the Broad, Janaki String Trio and Diaghloghi.

Yarlung Records - new artists, classic music

Jonathan Horwich's jazz tapes are very nice esp. the Roebke and Berman recordings.

International Phonograph Inc. | Master Tapes

Opus 3 has quite a selection and suggest trying the Sampler tapes, esp. the third tape.

The Tape Project are excellent and my favorite include Arnold Overtures, Lee Morgan SideWinder, the two Deccas (Bruch and Suite Espanola-no longer available), Waltz for Debbie, Little Hatch and The Band.

There's others out there now from Ultraanalogue, Groove Note (available now from Elusive disc),

Premonition (Patricia Barber), and tapes soon to come from Fone Records and Analog-audio. Kevin Berg will be handling the Fone tapes.

Congrats Jock !!

The UHA is the king of analog sources. I'm looking forward to hearing it. It will be as close as I ever get to owning one :panic:

Thanks Myles,

I'll check these out. Some of your suggestions, I lucked out in my guessing and already ordered.

Good suggestions Myles. Unfortunately, i think most, if not all, of the tape project titles you've identified are no longer available :(
Will look up the yarlung titles. They look interesting. Thanks.

I'd start with Dialoghi and then Smoke and Mirrors. :)

Very cool Jock, my buddy when I was a young audiophile had a nice Revox (44?) deck. We didn't have any master tapes, just recorded from vinyl source (its all there was) so we could hear a few LPs without flipping records. I always dug the whole aesthetic of a couple big reels spinning.

Will you have this rig at you place on the O. coast ?

I have an Otari MX-55 2 track pro deck that plays through a pair of Ampex 350 repros.

Jonathan has an excellent recording of a Piano recital that he did himself a long time ago. He is very modest about it and always blushes and says, "Ahh shucks" when asked about it. Just for the excitement of the recording, the dynamic range and the skill of the pianist, you should get it, even if you don't like Classical Piano. Sorry I could not tell you the name of it, just tell Jonathon, "The Piano Tape". I am a newbie at RTR so don't have much else to offer in terms of tapes. Mine are varietied from Rock and roll to blues to jazz.

Apparently rumour has it, via Mikey Fremer's site and a thread on WBF, that there is a swiss reel to reel deck to be produced soon. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Seems it is potentially a redone Studor?
