Any regrets?

Hey Paul, wow just checked out your systems.:shocking: I'm gonna go out on alimb here and guess you have more than a little disposable income. That or you mortgaged the house.

Thank you for kind words. Dave you do have a better looking wife than me so we are even :D

Have you ever sold a piece of gear and later regretted it? If so - what?

Heck, Yes!

A couple in particular:
  • APT Holman preamp
  • Ohm F speakers

Music Reference RM-5 Mk III preamp and Reynaud Trentes and Offrandes. Should have kept at least one of the two speakers.

I have bought and sold quite a few different pieces over the years always looking to improve my system. I was never totally satisfied.

Since getting my Shindo setup I have sold all my other stuff and have no regrets whatsoever. Have not missed or even thought about any of it.

I can't say I will never change my system but will probably just move up the Shindo ladder.

I feel the same way Kev.

The GAT was my one regret but I replaced that quickly!

For me, it has to be my introduction into tubes circa 1989, with a pair of Quicksilver 8417 mono-blocks, because shortly there afterwards the supply of power tubes started dying up, and at the time I didn't know jack about how to find more or even what brand were in them - G.E. of course.

But the sound of these heard 6 years through a pair of ProAc Response One S at the friend home I sold them had me wanting to throw myself from an 18 story building, since then I've learned four very important things - live with any given component long enough to understand its strengths and weaknesses - find the right combination of tubes to enhance the sound - a cabling loom that matches - and isolation devices/platform to lock in its sound.

Life's lessons indeed.

O_oh

I did read somewhere, that Quicksilver will convert the 8417 mono's to run EL34's with a 6DJ8 in the front end instead of the 12BH7/12AU7

Chris,

It was way after they were sold, that I found out about the mods, but to this very day........., Quicksilvers in one form or another, are what I often still recommend to friends looking to get into American made tube amps, along with Music Reference based amps that is.

Live - Learn.

I know I like little amps :D

There are times when I miss my (factory) modified Wilson Audio Watt Pups. Truth be told though, I regret selling my Totem Acoustic Sttaf's and the little Vista Audio i34 integrated amp even more. That combo was so freakin' ridiculous for the $$$$....
