I was please to learn that there are many ARC owners on the AS, hopefully there are some Magnepan or other Planar owners to swap info with.

Thanks,
Jim

I'm a previous owner of MMG, 1.6, 3.6 and 3.7. Loved them all. Nothing beats them for the money.

I was very happy with them
But one night they burned in front of me
I got so depressed that a friend gave me a pair of brand new Kef Reference Model III
:) good friend , right

Listening to Nino Rota at the moment on 20.7s. Short of a 30.7 showing up some day.. These are the act speakers ill ever own. But... I just might consider replacing the JC1s. They would be one tough act to follow. Ideas?

Rayoo:

Don't ask me as I'm a Bottlehead and would recommend a tube amp or amplification to go with them. To me, Magnepan's and Tubes are made for each other.

Hmmm. I've had that thought a few times over the ages, but always ended up with big SS amps driven by tube preamp. I.e. GAT. Sure would be sweet to have a couple CJ ART monos in the mix.

I loved my 1.7 as well...I'm with Mike on this one. Nothing beats them for the money. ( with nice sub )

Here is pic of mine.

3.7 pair I had were amazing. More bang for the buck than any audio item I can think of.

Mike:

I once owned a pair of 1.6's and sounded real shy in the bass, since the upper bass and above was darn nice, I went on a subwoofer expedition. Damn glad that I trust my ears as I ended up with an unlikely choice, a pair if B&W ASW300's which are an 8" sub that state they go down to 27hz, (I have had them down to 22hz with no mush). They are rather fast, tight and musical and were a cinch to integrate.

They are in stereo and I use a custom made set of high-pass filters between them and the panels and they sound as good as the JL's that I a/b against.

My room is 16x15', and I have no problem energizing the room. Multiple subs just makes more sense as you don't have to drive each as much, thus keeping them under the distortion thing, as well as to smooth out room modes and nulls.

They even work better with the 2.5's. I have them crossed at 60hz, which seems to be their sweet spot. It also takes the grunt work off the Magnepan's and frees up the amp as well.

Jim - that sounds like a great sounding combination! My Maggie's sound amazing with a slightly SS warmer amp. Loved the wall of sound of Maggie's.

Mike:

That is why I'm a bit surprised that Magnepan formed an alliance with Bryston as their amps are a bit tight and airy. I tried a 4SST, but I too needed a bit more warmth. I have an old 1975 BGW 500D that has been revoiced by my guitar amp tech, but it doesn't get much time anymore.

I like the ability to roll tubes every now and then, although I have a pretty decent set of tubes in all if my gear right now...there is something about the glow of tubes that can be addicting.

Yes Mike you're right Magnepan - Magnepan - Magnepan - NOTHING beats them for the money, to get BETTER speakers you need to spend much more money minimum two or three times more that is quite an honor for PANELS in general, the Magnepan's 3.7 sell for about $5,500.00 and when most 3.7 owners move up the ladder they choose the 20.7 if not the price of their new speakers is ALWAYS much more expensive two - three - four - times the price minimum, to me that is saying alot for BIG BANG FOR THE BUCK i am very happy for audiophiles that can afford major dollar systems but also that there is an alternative called Magnepan, because again dollar for dollar NOTHING even come's close.

PS: Sorry there is always used Acoustats, but that's another story. :):):)

I love Magnapans and use the MMGs with a sunfire sub for my home theater. I can't imagine ever using anything else except bigger Maggie's. The explosions have never been better, let alone the voices and music.
