Nice ride! You guys are killin' me with the TT bikes! :exciting:[/QUOTE] Thanks! As sexy as the bike may look, to me a time trial as become a fight between my brain and my body with a finish line as a great equalizer. They don't call it the race of truth for nothing. Dan

Beautiful weaponery you have there Etunes, both the Venge and Shiv are pretty rare (and expensive) machine, notwithstanding the wheels and electronic derailleurs. You have Campy's EPS and Shimano's DI2 if I'm not mistaken, which one do you like the best? Sweet wheels by the way, would be curious to try the Enve, earing good things of them. Dan
Thx. The Campy EPS is very nice for the road setup not sure if its needed though just a nice to have. For the TT/Tri bike I have become a convert 100% and find the setup stellar. It allows me to shift and brake from the bull horns which is very safe if I'm riding in a line which I sometimes do. Also the ability to run thru the gears easily while ascending or descending saving much time and energy. As for functionality they have both worked without issue and are a pleasure to ride.

+1 I've been a big ZIPP fan myself but hear good things about the Enve wheels. Seeing that you have both, how do they compare?

Both are awesome and although appear similar to me perform very differently. The Enves are the best all around fast wheelset I've ever ridden anything under 20MPH wind and they get the nod. The wind does not move them I find them very stable and easy to handle. The Zipps while slightly faster are not near as forgiving so for everyday training a run the 404 up front for race day its the 808 under 15 MPH. The zipps also track extremely well meaning that while i can feel the push more from the wind the momentum keeps everything stable just a different feel. Both are carbon clinchers so tire change is a snap. I raced the Zipp Disc Carbon Clincher a few weekends ago and it was very nice.

Ah, those are Enve's. Yes, I hear they are good.

What pads do you guys use on your CCs?

Both Zipp and ENVE have their own pads, no doubt produced by someone else. If I had carbon rims I would use SwissStop pads. Probably the Yellow King's.

SwissStop Worldwide Homepage
I use Swisstop Yellow King on both bikes. Haven't tried anything else on carbon rims so I can't comment. The only thing I can say is that carbon rims are inneficient in rain. Dan

Fleet pics:

First my cyclocross bike in summer/trainer trim, a Colnago World Cup that is currently using canti's but can be converted to disk. Don't see converted to disk tho as CX to me isn't a braking sport and I have enough braking power with canti's. Shimano 105 gruppo, presently on Mavic Open Pro 32 with CycleOps Powertap. In season I have two sets of tubular rims, Mavic Reflex 32 spokes with Shimano Dura Ace hubs and Challenge Lumus tires, the other Mavic Reflex 32 spokes with Ultegra hubs with Challenge Fango tires.

TT bike is a Opus Magnificat (local brand) that dates back to 2007 with EC90TT wheels and a Shimano (mix and match) gruppo. Using an Adamo TT seat on the bike. This pic does have the right crank.

Last but not least, a Cannondale Supersix with EC90 wheelset and a Shimagnolo gruppo. F/R derailleur and shifters are Campagolo with chain and cassette by Shimano. Works seamlessly with the use of JTek Shitmate. Why did I do this, I have a total of 7 wheelsets with Shimano hubs but always wanted Campy shifters. C'dale frame was recently acquired as a replacement to an Argon18 Platinum, needed a stiffer frame with a somewhat shorter wheelbase. The Argon18 will be missed.

The weather around here needs to improve so I can get out and ride. I did 16 miles today and it was killin' me. :( I'll blame it on the headwind I had most of the time. :D

Same here, Doug. Currently in Boston visiting a friend of mine. Though raining, we went for a short ride of about 7miles. We hope to do 25+ tomorrow, but we have 17-19mph winds working against us!:(

Did 50 miles this morning with a couple of friends in Montreal. We rode in rain with winds of 18 mph with gusts at 30 and a balmy 48F. Average speed of 20mph, not bad at all considering the weather. We were getting wipped by the wind from all sides. So damn cold I guess we all wanted to get rid of it as fast as possible. Literally froze my toes and heels!

Just wondering if there are any others here that have a passion for cycling. I've been a mountain biker for 20+ years and have gotten into cyclocross/road riding just within the past three years. I raced in our local Cyclocross series for the past couple of years and really enjoy that. It's nothing too crazy, just a bunch of like-minded riders that want to get out and punish themselves and drink a little beer afterwards.

There's something about getting out there, whether pavement or dirt, and knowing that you and only you are in control of where you go and how long it takes. 20, 30, 50, 100 miles today? I love pushing myself as far as I can and when I need to stop and take a breather, realizing that I need to ride all the way back to where I started! I'm using a Cyclocross bike on the road for now because many places I ride are dirt/gravel roads and a CX bike allows the use of fatter tires. I like getting off the beaten path and exploring the roads less traveled. I'm looking at the possibility of a new bike (most likely next year) and am thinking about something like this carbon fiber beauty:

It's amazing how expensive bikes have gotten likely. It's almost as bad as audio gear!

I'm hoping that there are others here that are willing to share stories, rides, ideas, etc...

Quote: It's amazing how expensive bikes have gotten likely. It's almost as bad as audio gear! Yes you're right but with my audio system i can listend for 6 - 8 - 10 - hours in a row BUT with a bike i couldn't last 6 - 8 - 10 minutes and that's not a joke all that weight is because of MUSIC & COMPUTER.:)

4 inches of snow fell were I'm racing next week in Charlevoix, Québec (road closures and everything). Weather is still piss poor here so I'm not even inclined to go out and train. When is summer gonna come? Tired of training in poor weather, thinking of starting my cyclocross season early.BTW Doug, what cx bike do you have?

That's no fun riding in wind that strong. Here's to hoping it's at your back most of the way!

Wow Dan, averaging 20mph in those conditions is awesome! It's rides like this that we remember for years to come, not the beautiful 75 degree and sunny ones. I always thought it was more of an accomplishment when I finished a ride like this. :)
