Annoying Ad's

If everyone Donates and does more often there would be no need for the ads. My guess, only a small % have donated.

I didn't know we could donate? Now that I see the link, what is the difference between the "donate" and "subscribe" options?

Thanks Mike. Donate is one time. Subscribe is monthly amount, quarterly, annual, etc.

And as I mentioned before, 100% of donated funds go toward the cost of the site. All funds are kept in a separate Audioshark bank account and all expenses for the site are paid from that account.

Is it just me or everyone? I am seeing links from many different words, as in they are highlighted in green. Also when I click on a thread another page opens up as well on a relevent topic of the thread but another site.

If you are seeing words highlighted as links, you have been infected with an adware, most likely "Movie Mode". If you have, you will see "Movie Mode" in small print in the bottom corner of the banner ads on the page.

Rick, thanks for that, have now fixed it as it was my computer.

Ads can be successfully filtered out by exception using hardware and/or software proxies. I'm not suggesting that you should exclude advertising from all sites you visit.

I especially filter ads from commercial sites & mainly to minimise agency aggregation of "my big data".

You should also have a firewall & virus protection enabled to mitigate risk of adware, Trojans, viruses etc.

Really, would that be anti-virus with anti malware/adaware added as in the whole bundle these days? I thought trojans were outdated?

Depending on which browser your using, I have heard good things about Firefox Adblock Plus but most of the time these add block programs could be more trouble than they are worth and they use up some memory which could impact your browsing. i.e. 6,560K compared to 68,400K with Adguard AdBlocker, and over 100,000K for both AdBlock & AdBlock Plus

Adtrap is a good proxy product. It's a Linux based proxy filter that blocks everything unless you decide otherwise.

Initial production runs were faulty, but it has been sorted. I have been using this on my home gateway without incident. It's fast too.

No such thing as outdated when it comes to targeting the vulnerable. Keeping your security essentials up to date & running a firewall at both machine & router points is not overkill. Identity theft is your worst nightmare.

Regarding the annoying ads, in 1973, as a student, I wrote a letter to the late Robert Sherman, Program and later Station Manager for WQXR-FM (classical music in New York) about their increasingly annoying jingle jangle ads shortly after the GOOD classical FM station, WNCN went off the air due to lack of ads and financial support. His reply was short and to the point. He said the ads keep them from being in the "off the air" department. A few years ago, the New York Times, owner of WQXR, felt NYC needed yet another Spanish music station and sold the frequency for $33million. WQXR became relegated to a different frequency with less than 1/10 the broadcast power so I no longer receive it. There are now ZERO dedicated classical music stations in New York.

MONEY is necessary for these websites to continue. You can subscribe or have ads.
