Announcing Sabrina

Paragon is having a Sabrina event this coming Friday, March 27th. The speaker was on static display at the last Wilson event in late October. It was pretty small. I will let you know what they paired it with after the event.

I spent some time listening to them today, with Audio Research G-series amp and preamp, Puccini transport/DAC, and Transparent Cables.

Don, thanks for the update. Are you able to compare them to the Sasha 2's? Can you describe their sound? Bass? Highs?
 
Looks like a great speaker for a limited space paired with an ARC VSI75 or Ref75SE and a Lumin.

I am afraid I cannot compare. This was at a local dealer and I did not compare other gear and (unfortunately) I am not familiar enough with the Sasha 2s to elaborate.

As far as highs, I think I loved the tweeter and the apparent driver integration from tweeter to mid sounded seamless to my ear. The soft dome tweeter had all the crisp, clean detail I would expect from something of this caliber, but without any hint of edginess or fatigue. The resolution (and resulting air and spaciousness) was absolutely superlative, but that's also a testament to the gear upstream (and source), too. I could listen to it all day long. :P The bass was big and omnipresent, but in a good way. It was room-filling, but taught and fast enough to make the upright bass sound clean and wooden, not lumpy. I would have probably added an extra bass trap (or reposition the existing ones) in each corner to tame the room a little more, but I don't fault the speakers for that anomaly. The midrange - the potential (or not!) magic of a speaker - was as natural as I think I can remember from a multi-driver speaker in recent memory. I remember sitting there thinking the usual "Gee, now I have to go home and listen to my crap system" and evaluating what apparent weakness I should decide to improve first. :)

Having heard those speakers at their debut up in Seattle last month, I'm jones-ing for a pair for upstairs to flank the TV. I thought they were outstanding, and better, IMO, than the Sophia2. I also heard them with ARC GS150 and pre, and Transparent cables. (Owning Alexias, I am currently biased towards Wilson speakers.) I could easily build a system around Sabrinas.
 
The Sabrina looks to be a great size format for many applications. I like the simple three way driver design too.

Would love to hear a pair....
 
I like how they handled the demo at the Paragon event. For the first four tracks the Sabrinas were powered by a ~$2300 Parasound integrated amp. I don't remember anyone having an issue with the SQ at all. Then for each demo session they swapped out the Parsound unit for Doshi amps and pre-amp. They started with the same last song played thru the integrated. Wow, a noticeable improvement. Peter McGrath then continued to play a few more tracks with the Doshi gear showing its Sabrina's capabilities.
 
VERY cool! These speakers have such a nice footprint for those with a small room.

Man.. I may have said it here already, but I'm going to say it again - I think the Sabrina's are going to be THE Wilsons to buy.

For starters, it's a compact tower that should be able to blend well in most real-world listening rooms. That alone is a plus. Then we have that badass driver compliment. A meaty sounding soft dome, one of the best 5" woofers ever made (in my opinion), complete with a hefty 8" woofer that'll most likely feature the classic 60Hz - 80Hz 'Wilson Bump'. Then there's the price. While they are far from what I'd call 'affordable', the good news is that they are within reach of people whose net worth doesn't tally into the millions.

Now if only the company would do away with the Sophia and in it's stead, release a modernized version of the Watt Puppy 5.1. I'm getting worked up just thinking about it... :D

The Sophia 5 will be released later this year, and the Sasha Series 2 is the modernized version of the Watt Puppy 5.1.
