Allen's Listening Room

Allen, it looks great. Can't wait to see the finished product, but the pics along the way are a treat. Sounds to me like the little audiophile devil on your shoulder had you playing your tunes loud enough to persuade the better half that you "need" your own listening room! :D

Allen... Thanks for sharing the build-out of your dedicated listening room with us!!!
Happy to, Jeff! Hopefully I'll get some tips or offer some to others thinking of doing the same.

Thanks, Doug! Hehe, my little ruse was easy to spot, eh?:P

Damn!! I saw this thread pop up and was excited to see pics . Lol

Haha, sorry for the long wait guys! The builders haven't been working up to snuff and now they are in between jobs (working at least one other job and mine). But to be honest, a good part is mostly on my wife and I. My wife is in a very decorating mood lately and wanted to experiment with some higher end paint and colors. We just selected a paint color and had the room painted. We still have to pick out a carpet (hopefully this weekend), and then the doors need to be hung, etc. Hopefully in 2-3 weeks the room will be done!:P

Thanks for remembering and asking though!:peace: Will post pics when it's done, promise!

I bet you can't wait! Paint colors = you're nearing the end!

Due to my loud music playing in the family room, my family subtly suggested I really might enjoy listening to music more in the basement. We have a finished basement, but there was no real good listening area, let alone room. So talked to my wife and got the ok to tear down our TV area and build a pretty dedicated listening room.:inlove:

Before we get to the pics, I just wanted to give a big heartfelt thanks to Jeff from A/V Solutions. I just mentioned that I was going to be build a listening room, and the next thing I know we're on the phone for hours with Jeff recommending construction materials and techniques for proper acoustic control and isolation. I think I followed all of his suggestions here and I'll point them out as I go through the pics. Jeff, I couldn't have done it without you, buddy! Your advice and friendship is invaluable!

This project started a few weeks ago. But instead of showing pics in 'real time', decided to compress the time and show you in a few stages. The room when completed will be approximately 17x24x8.5-7.5. There is a dropped ceiling due to duct and pipe work.:(

First, this is what it looked like before construction started:

Tear down the walls, open up the space, and construction begins:

To be cont'd...[/QUOTE

Keep up the good work

Any update pictures Allen ?

Hey, Paul, you haven't forgotten! I've just cleaned up the room. It's now my listening room and my office (gave the office to my wife who said I couldn't take two rooms for myself!). I'll post some pics late tomorrow!

Hey Guys, some pics as promised.

The room is still pretty much a work in progress. I had hope to post pics of the room with some new toys inside, but unfortunately that will have to wait (soon though!). So for now, here are a few pics with some of my 'vintage' gear inside:

A view from the back wall. Aerial 10Ts serving up the music for over 14 years. When I get my new speakers, these will go to the family room and serve in a HT setup. The 10Ts still sound pretty good to these ears after all these years...

Tube traps at the 1st and 2nd reflection points. I have 16 tube traps in all. The black ones will stay, the beige ones will go when I finalize the rest of my room treatments (likely a mix of RPG and Vicoustics).

Billy Bags equipment rack with Esoteric K-03, Job 225 amp, Shunyata Triton, and a modded Sonos media player. On the floor is my Jeff Rowland Model 8TiHC amp, a real classic and one of his best designs IMO. It's not in the center of the floor because I don't have ICs long enough to reach from the rack to the center of the front wall. I'll need about 8-9 meters of ICs (on order).

Finally, a shot from the listening chair with the lights down.

As the room evolves, either with gear or acoustic treatments, I'll be sure to post here on this thread.

Thanks for looking!:)

Wow Allen what a fantastic looking room! :exciting: It looks like a lot of thought went into it. I like the tray ceiling, the sconces, and the double doors are a nice addition as well. The color palette is very soothing also. Looks great! Are you happy with it?

Thanks guys! I LOVE this room! The speakers have some room to breathe. With the acoustic treatments installed thus far, the room doesn't sound like a bloody mess either. The speakers really do disappear. But there's still much more work to be done: a dedicated HVAC, some accent lighting, more acoustic treatments to open up the sound, and last but not least, some new gear.;)

I'm assuming those double doors are there so you can wheel in those TAD Reference Ones. :D
