Alexia Fever Continues!

My phono-pre is not a popular one, but was well reviewed by Fremer. I found it quite capable but am willing to give it up for a Ref-Phono2SE. Since my dealer is now 200 miles away home auditions not likely.
in that pricerange there is alot of stiff competition. you would need to go listen to some before deciding. there are some good ones out there that match up to any of them and are a little less expensive. im in that boat currently. trying to decide which phonostage i want to spend the rest of my life with.

I had a nice conversation with my dealer this morning. He knows my taste and what I like. He setup my AMG table and had 2 visits to dial in my Sashas to where we had them as perfect as possible in my old room. I trust his advice. His opinion, after having spent quite some time with the Ref75 driving Alexias, was that little amp had all the magic one would want from a tube amp. He felt it nudged the 150 off the mark in some areas. (Some reviews have said the same thing.) He thought the ARC REF Phono, Pre, and 75 will play magic on the Alexias, leaving some $$ for StillPoints for the speakers. He said he was dreading setting up the Alexias on my (rather soft) hardwood floors, and was hoping I was going to buy Ultra5's.

He felt if I was going to go with the Dag stereo amp, I should go with the Dag pre as well. But I am a tube guy to be sure.:)

Also, he sent down some Wilson color pucks. If the Porsche Titanium Brown is between the Topaz and the Macadamia Brown, I am sure that'll be the color we choose. Else, I like the Topaz over the Macadamia, it picks up the room colors more. The Imola Red, if it had some metallic in it, would be the closest to the Candy Apple Red of my prior Sashas. But I think a little more monochromatic pallet will fit more in the new room.

Good to hear Bob. The 75 is a beauty amp....and the meters are cool!

Metallic Flake can be added to any color. Just sayin' ;)

Bob,

My REF 75 has no problem driving my Sophia 3s.

Don't forget to budget some money for a PC.

Bob,

Thanks for that... but I'm too intimately aware of all these little EXTRAS and how quickly they add up.

When I filled out the insurance form, I was afraid to show it to my wife. The insurance guy laughed at me recognizing I'd been "outed" and now wifey would know the extent of my spending lately on this little "stereo hobby" of mine!

Congrats Bob. Sounds like you have a good plan coming together.

+1! Sounds like your system is coming together nicely Bob. I'm thrilled that the move/van theft is turning into a very happy ending!

Super nice

Of course! We have "Standard" colors, but really we can do any color you could think of :)

The same thing was said of the CYFAC dealer when I bought my custom frame a few years back. Then they asked if I could provide the Pantone color #. Ugh! After we went back and forth a few times I got a color that was most excellent, but the difference between seeing the frame on a cloudy vs. sunny day is amazing. In the sun, the red color becomes burnt orange. Its really sort of weird color shift, but no one has a bike like mine!

Not to worry though, I don't think the Alexia's will be sitting in the sun much.

Bob, Mike(Ritmo) on our forum has the combo of ARC REF 5se preamp and Dag stereo amp with his Alexia's. It's a very good combination, I have listened to the ARC REF 10/ Dag stereo/Alexia combo myself, it's very magical !!!

Indeed! The ARC/DAG combo sounds fantastic with the Alexias.

Well there ya go! My dealer (his opinion) thought the Dag amps worked better with the Dag pre than the ARC. But I suppose you still get some of the bloom and 3 dimensionality using the ARC pre. I know lots of folks like a tube pre / solid state amp combination.

Bob,

ARC or DAG are fantastic components to drive the Alexias - no question. I first listened to the Alexias with the ARC Ref 5SE and Ref 150. Then we swapped the Ref 150 with the DAG stereo amp. Both combinations sounded very good. For me, the DAG had a better balance top to bottom. Now, the DAG costs twice as much.

Either way, you will be happy with the Alexias and ARC. But, if you get a chance give both a listen.

Thx!

Indeed, the colors are great. My dealer sent down a half dozen colors I had interest to see, and Wilson sent a new hockey puck with the "Titanium Brown," which is kind of a Taupe color IMO. I really wanted that titanium brown to be the one, but when all was said and done the Topaz Metallic looked best in the room when the lights were dimmed. In order to see the faint brown in the Titanium Brown, the light had to be just right. Without that, it shifted to look very much like Dark grey titanium.

A week from today I'll put in the "official" order (credit card cut-offs need to be considered when you're about to max your card! And don't worry, I won't be carrying a balance on a cc card for speakers -- my wife is, after all, a banker!)
