Alexia Fever Continues!

Yes, indeed, $39K is a really big number. A new Jeep Rubicon sized number. But with the new house and getting it dialed in, I won't have much opportunity to get into the back country with a jeep any time soon. Alexia can be singing in the house every day!

They are Desert Silver with Parchment grills. A very neutral color that will fit just about anywhere.

Well, $10K is a big number to me, and being thrifty is always a good idea. The one little nick, as it turns out, is about 1.25mm and a tiny dab of touchup paint will make it disappear. The others would be hard to spot unless one were really, really looking. Considering these will be something in my home for (I hope) at least 5-10 years, by the time I part with them the tiny blems will not impact the value.

So, I''m gonna pull the trigger. :bananasplit:The savings will be valuable towards a Ref Phono2SE or an upgrade to my amp or pre.

And... while it is the dealer's responsibility, I do know the drive from Seattle down to Portland for setup isn't a small deal. And my guy at the dealer will probably make a second trip for final tweaking.

Now, I just want to wait until after Valentines Day to tell wifey!

BIG, HUGE congratulations, Bob!! I am so happy for you! I'm glad things worked out with insurance and you'll be upgrading to the wonderful Alexias!! Woohoo!:woot::woot:

Great post earlier, too, my friend! LMAO!

When will all this happen?

For me, snow is in the forecast tomorrow, so I'm not sure if I will get my pair tomorrow.:what: But just hearing you pulled the trigger on a pair makes me very happy!:bananamouse: Well done, sir!

Congrats Bob!!!

Now that you've pulled the trigger, when are your babies being delivered!

Big congrats Bob!!! You won't be disappointed! They will be a quantum leap over what you had previously. Keep us posted on their ETA! :woot:

Allen, how's the Alexia fever these days? Did taking two albums, with two glasses of wine cure you, or is the prescription to be repeated, over & over, with perhaps no cure possible?

Sounds like a virus I need to contract. More glasses though, only way to make a legitimate attempt for a cure.

This is also Desert Silver with a Parchment Grill....;)

If you decide to add the Rubicon in addition to your beautiful new speakers, we have a wonderful Death Valley trip planned for spring break.

There is a big problem with this picture... The top and doors are still on that rubicon while the sun is out, on a dirt road. Blasphemy!

Ha! This is day three of out four in Death Valley without hitting pavement. In this case, when traveling with 8 other rigs, the dust would be unbearable....most of the time, we even had the windows up!

When will we see pictures of your new speakers?!

Isn't eat'n a little dust part of the fun?

But really, 8 rigs? Kinda spoils the view unless you're the lead dog!

I want a Rubicon for this road: The Gravelly Range Road Backcountry Drive in Montana : Information, Photos and Maps

And check the other scenic drives on that site. The great wide American west. :D

As for the speakers, they're still at the dealer. I will be visiting them on Thursday. Some guy 'falkenlaser' posted a video on Youtube of them http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=evOF_m-ked4

Not really sure why that video was posted... There are much better videos of Alexias. But those are the very ones I am buying.

They look great. Can you pick up the amps while you are at it....gorgeous! The views are so big in Death Valley, I'm not sure how they could be missed! But, you do find a way to keep a happy distance between you and the guy in front.

I live about 20 miles from the start of the actual Rubicon...a beautiful trail, but it has become so popular that it's hard to find a quiet place to camp.

The Alexias are like any good drug Bob, you just can't get enough! It's smooth, liquid sonic bath is extremely addictive! You will find out soon enough, my friend!

Like your new avatar Bob, in particular your jersey! Kudos KOM!!

That's a great description for audio Allen. Is that the Alexia's on their own or the D'ag/Alexia combo?

Well, I just had an interesting weekend... I drove up to Seattle Thursday to listen to the Alexias and check them out physically as well wrt the tiny blems. The setup was ARC Ref10, a new <20hrs CD9, Ref250 monos. The DAC in the CD9 was being fed from a networked NAS.

I had not spent time with the Alexias in the past, 'cause if I hear something to be better I can get the upgrade jones which can have a negative impact on marital harmony. But listening to the Alexias it was clear they will be a significant upgrade vs. my prior Sashas. Sadly, the cables were Transparent for solid state amps, and the DAC was a loooong way from broken in, so I don't think I heard the best of the Alexia sound.

I came home the same day, but over the weekend began to question my whole involvement in this crazy expensive hobby. Facing the forthcoming expenditures to rebuild my system, even with some insurance monies still pending, I found myself debating the ride on the merry-go-round and if the enjoyment justified the price. As I shared this with my wife I thought she'd be happy, but she instead said she couldn't imagine me not spending time listening to music or working the financial angles to get a new piece of gear. She said she'd miss keeping my spending in check, that it was part of our life together. Me, I was wondering how big a hit I'd be taking if I sold off the turntable (one piece I had moved myself so it was not stolen with my other gears.)

After spending the weekend agonizing over this, I went down into what would be the music room--then decided what the hell I had looked at 36 houses before we chose this one, and a key decision was that it have a place to make a music room, so why not press on and fill it up with gear and listen to some great music!

Having come to that conclusion, I'm going to spring instead for a new pair of Alexias vs the demo pair, and a pair of Ref250's to make 'em sing! (After living with my Sashas in Candy Apple Red, the Desert Silver color just didn't have any POP. For my new room I am leaning towards a pair in dark titanium--not as much bling factor but a great color that would go very well in my room.)

Awesome, having gone from Sashas to Alexias myself, I know how thrilled you will be. They are beautiful looking speakers and getting the color you want is part of the pride of ownership.

Holy cow! Congrats!! Mine are firmly planted in my listening room. The REF250's won't even break a sweat! Congrats. Hopefully Nelson will chime in here. He has the Alexia/ARC combo right now.

Bob,

Congratulations on the Alexia decision. You and your wonderful wife will love them.

That's great news Bob and congrats! I remember hearing an ARC/Wilson combo at a dealers shop one day and I still can't get that sound out of my head. What other electronics will your system have in it?
