Advice sought from speaker dealers... (Wilson Dealers)

I would never pay full MSRP for any equipment period. That's like buying a car at full MSRP and who does that?

Reminds me of the customer's reaction when told the price he was being asked to pay for a new car was full MSRP. The customer replied, "Only a fool pays full MSRP! Do I look like a fool to you?" To which the salesman replied, "No sir, but if you were I sure didn't want to miss you."

When I was buying my Alexia's, the A-hole dealer in Miami said to me "if you want Alexia's - you're going to pay MORE than MSRP." They need a bigger store - just for his ego. At that time - he was the only Wilson dealer in Florida and was cocksure he had me over a barrel. Luckily that isn't that case anymore and he lost my business and respect. Wilson knows the whole story and should take the brand away from him. At least they granted the brand to a dealer in his own backyard only days after this incident. Just deserts I say! But they should still rip the brand from him....

It's very difficult to get any meaningful discount on Wilsons so if the minor dings don't bother you I'd take the demo pair. I would have them eat any tax on the sale and make it an even 20...what the hell is 19%?! I'd also bargain for a dollar for dollar credit should you want to trade up in the future. Good luck.

Good advice from Michael.

I would never pay 80% of the MSRP for any audio component that looks anything less than Brand New. I am like Mike and Joe on this -- any imperfection bothers me and interferes with the enjoyment of my system (I know it is not rational!). I think for a high dollar item like the Alexias you should be able to buy brand new and negotiate a discount in excess of 10%. Also, a few small nicks in the finish would suggest to me that the dealer has been somewhat lax/careless in taking care of the speakers -- that tends to worry me.

I asked my dealer if they'd consider parting with their demo Wilson Alexias... and I was surprised to hear them say YES. I finally learned the price they were asking was going to be only 19% discount from the $48.5K list price -- and the speakers have a few small nicks in the paint.

My fear is that the small nicks/blems will gnaw away at me every time I sit in front of them, to the point where I'd want to sell them. Knowing I'd never get my money on the used market, what do you think of my dealer's price?

Agree 100% , a dented car for ME is a used car same for audio gear dented gear is used gear i have been buying used gear for more than 40 years #1 If it's dented i don't buy it #2 it as to be MINIMUM half of msrp or else i don't buy it plain and simple, Plenty of fish in the sea.

The problem in this audio business is this; the audio dealers very well know that there are many suckers out there who would pay full MSRP!
We've all seen it; customers who come to the dealer's audio store and simply buy the best and most expensive audio units, without any auditioning, without any bargaining (dealing), just @ the full price that the dealer asked for!. ...Credit card thank you very much sir, the stuff will be delivered right to your home!

Andre you probably saw that too. I know people who hang in audio/music stores a big part of their life (I am one of them), and after a while they become part of the full tapestry. They know all the ins & outs, the repairmen, the delivery men, the product's representatives, the new and used stuff, and so much more. ...Money is one thing, knowledge is another, and often they don't mix together.

And on the other way you have these individuals who come only once or twice, ask one question or two, and then simply spend ten to a hundred grands without any repulsion, convolution, convulsion, inhibition, question, ... just full price (or close to it) for all items they just purchased!

Yes Bob you're right there are a few of those BUT in my circle of friends even the ones that have money there more like me COST + 5or10% :) but at 68 most of my friends are over 60 and you know the saying the older the wiser it's hard to have 40 years experience when you are 25 BUT i do know a few of those to :) take care my friend.

At least I never had a bad experience with any Hi end store but the Future shop and Best Buy....

Paul, I've been in many cities across Canada; and I visited several "cachet" audio shops.
...Forget Target, Costco, Best Buy, Future Shop; I ain't talking about that crap!

Some of my best friends are audio dealers. ...And there are others who simply shouldn't be there at all!
And if they are still there that tells me something about the store's owners and main managers.

Anyway, each one of us customers, we are unique, and we deserve the best.
But the best is not always what we got from the worst audio dealers!

It's the exact same thing in all other life's avenues. It's the people who make the difference for the best, or the worst.
Just look right here @ AudioShark for example; why do you think people get along just fine here, as compared to many other places? ...Because of the quality of the people, that's why. We welcome everyone here; rich or poor, like this or like that, without judging them, without insulting them, without degenerating them.

I wouldn't make a deal on the Alexias until after I heard the new Sasha Series-2.

Cool story. Is that the one in Doral, FL?

I assume that they will be driving them down to you and installing them to you in Portland and that's included in the discounted price. That's a fairly time consuming install.

If that's the case it's a fair deal but not a killer deal.

I agree with the delivery and install part. Just a question though. There have been a lot of Alexia and Dag purchases from members lately, is everyone paying retail? I know it's probably not my business but I have my reasons for the question. I have not been able to sell anything at full retail in a very long time. Just curious what goes on in other parts of the country as well as my own back yard.
