Getting the listening position figured out is very important. There are instructions to do this online. Also, carpets, soft wall hangings and soft chairs/couches work wonders. Most rooms, to me, are too lively and echo too much. Any easy way too see if the room is too lively is to clap you hands and listen for echo, if it echos, add more soft stuff in the room until it barely goes away. Simple and effective. Good luck.

Room shouldn't be too lively, but also shouldn't be too dead - in that case it sucks the life out of music. The proper balance is crucial.
