Acoustat Owners

To all Acoustat owners out there i just want to make myself clear once and for all, i am no expert on Acoustat speakers just a long time user ( 30 years ) there are many kinds of Acoustat's out there some better than others i am not pretending to have the best all that i am saying is that dollar for dollar NOTHING come's close to what i own, there may be better ones out there i don't know and i don't care, over a 30 years spand there have been many different kinds of mods done to them but today my speakers have 2012 - 2013 - upgraded parts in the interfaces mods have also been done to the panels the frames are 2x3 steel covered with wood, there is also a metal plate in the base, all the work was done by my friend Jocelyn he as been rebuilding Acoustats for a very long time, as for me i can't even use a soldering iron all i know is what Jocelyn tells me and most of the time i have to write it down to remember, i have NEVER said that my speakers are the best, what i have said is that for the money invested i have yet to hear better and as for Jocelyn's Spectra 8800s i have yet to hear something better even at 5 times the price, of course to MY taste.

I am very fond of my Acoustats as well. They reproduce the music that I love very well. And 30 years of experience must count for something.

Albert the most important is that YOU are satisfied of your speakers nobody else mathers, i have people telling me i should have this or i shoul have that they don't even know me, i am no expert but after 30 years with 6 different pairs i think that i have a pretty good idea of what does or doesn't work and for ME what i have now works.

Andre, you should listen to what you like with your own set of ears. ;) ...And through the mechanical/electrical music reproducers of your own musical choice.

Bob that's exacly what i do, i don't need NOBODY to tell me what i should or shouldn't do, i'm old enough to make my own decisions live and let live.

I have over 5,000 posts on Canuck Audio Mart and i have members telling me that until i put a sub or two in my system i will never be able to hear the full potential of that system. Well #1 i don't like to mix panels with boxes #2 if i wanted boxes i would have boxes #3 i don't like subwoofers #4 even if i did like subs i don't have the room for them #5 my Acoustats go down to 30hz and that is low enough for me, i think that after 30 years with the same kind of speakers and thousands of hours listening i have a pretty good idea IF the sound is good enough for ME.

Where would i put the subs ????? Keep It Simple 1600x1200.JPG

André, never say never. Until you have heard a sub faster/as fast as, than your speakers an open mind may be beneficial

Andre, if you are happy with your system then just enjoy it. Life is too short to worry about the small stuff. Apart from cables, tube rolling and room treatments, I think that I have reached a level where I am happy with my system as well. Are there better? Probably but at some point you have to say good enough and just enjoy the music. Otherwise you can go crazy chasing after the ultimate sound. It is fun to experiment, though.

No problem for me Kev when i say never i mean never my friend Jocelyn as two JL's F-112s with his Spectra 8800s but i prefer the sound WITHOUT the subs it is just a question of tastes HE likes them better with I don't but it is HIS system i will be 69 in a few days and i don't expect to be moving anytime soon i expect finishing my days here in my little condo .:happy::happy::happy:

Albert i have been a happy person ever since i tried a pair of Acoustat in my home in 1984 from then on i have never looked back from then on my goal was to direct audiophiles to the wonderful world of PANELS if i can't find them Acoustats i hook them up to Magnepans :) the second best ( dollar for dollar ) speaker on the market according to ( ME ) for what that's worth :)

That is a very interesting sub. It appears to only be available in France, unfortunately. It sounds like it would work well with Acoustats.

I have plans for a TubaHT that I may build. It is said to be quick and very clean as well. I don't think it will go much lower than my 2+2 but it would have a lot more output. My Axiom EP500 doesn't mate very well with my panels so I only use it sometimes with movies. I usually forget to turn it on as the Acoustats run full range.

Hi Albert about going low Jocelyn's 8800s go down to 24hz without his subs and with the two JL's F-112s they go down to 14hz now that is low as for ME i choose 24hz NO SUBWOOFERS.:congrats: most people here know how i feel about subwoofers :reallymad:

Wow, 14 hz is pretty low. My Axiom sub is supposed to go down to 18 hz +- 3 dB but I seldom use it as the 2+2 goes deep enough for music and sounds better without the sub.
