When I was forced to tear down a system and sell it off I needed something to replace it of course. I bought a pair of Acoustat 1+1 with Medallion transformers from a friend of mine, and also an Acoustat TNT 200 amplifier. I was then fortunate enough to source an Acoustat TNP pre-amplifier, so I had the whole Acoustat rig. I found certain aspects of it intriguing, but it never really scratched my itch. I ended up selling it off when I had enough money to return to SET amplification and back loaded horn speakers. I couldn't decide if I wanted to dump the electronics and try again with better stuff. I decided to go with what I knew I liked. So you can call me a former Acoustat owner who appreciates them.

Regards
Mister Pig

Hi Mister Pig, having owned 4 different models of Acoustats in 30 years - Spectra 22s - Spectra 33s - 2+2s - and finaly this is my third and last pair of 1+1s living in a condo this is the model that is best suited for my space, the 1+1s are also the most difficult to drive of ALL Acoustat models 81db, with Acoustat's more you have panels the easier they are to drive, they do need GOOD amplification.

I have a pair of Acoustat 2+2 and a pair of model 4 speakers. I used to use the model 4 in a surround HT system but I have since gone back to 2 ch with my 2+2. I have gone through a variety of amps and currently am using Jeff Rowland model 5 amp and consummate pre and phono amps. I also use a pair of Ray Lumley tube mono-block amps that work very well with Acoustats.

I really like the sound of electrostatic speakers, they image very well, handle transients well (very quick speakers) and are very resolving. I may try using the panels in the model 4 with some spare ones to make a model 8 one of these days. I have the extra transformers but need another amp as the model 8 requires 4 channels.

Albert you may want to talk with Jocelyn he as just put a pair of 4400s & 6600s together that's 10 panels per side on a single pair of Krell KRS mono blocks with GREAT success.

Thanks everyone. And thanks Andre, I should contact Jocelyne to get pointers on building model 8's. I was thinking of using my Ray Lumley mono blocks and would need to buy a second pair at around $2500. I am having trouble pulling the trigger. But it would be nice to have 200 w/ch and with 4 mono blocks (8 KT-120's), my furnace wouldn't run as often!

BACK in the day prior to getting into business of designing and manufacturing my own speakers, I owned quite a few different speakers, and one of my favorite brands was ACOUSTAT. I really liked the model 6, and the MONITOR 4, if I recall the name correctly (it had a direct drive servo amp with it). Was just a lovely sounding speaker...
CHEERS....

They must have been Acoustat Monitor 4s, those would be half of these, 4 panels in the bottom and 4 on top.

You may use a second pair if you wish BUT you don't need to, a single pair of Krell's KRS-100s are driving 20 panels and Jocelyn is driving 16 panels with his Plinius stereo amp.

PS: Funny thing is with Acoustat the more panels you have the easier they are to drive, the most difficult load are the 1+1s ( 81db ) and yes those are mine with the little Chord integrated, lucky for me i'm in a condo.

André, how do the guys & gals with Acoustat find the Plinius line?

My friend Jocelyn own's a SA-250MK4 that he love's BUT as just upgraded to the Reference, i for one love the Plinius line but for the integrateds i prefer my Chord CPM-2600 to the Plinius 9200.

I would believe they would be a dream amp to drive those panels. Their stand alone amps have huge power, i lived with them for 15-20- years, .....

Albert for ANY info on Acoustat send an email to Jocelyn and he will be happy to help and you will be dealing with someone that know's what he is talking about.:)
