Hi,
I had the chance to test several IA within last weeks and thought you are interested in such and why I decided finally for the E-600 (which I hopefully will get THIS WEEK! :exciting
I use at home Astin Trew 3500+ CD with the Brinkmann Integrated Amplifier and Canton Reference 1.2DC. This in a quite large and not optimum room design of 6X8 meter with a nearly full windowed site (which I guess is important for my results).
I recognized that the Brinkmann IA is not the perfect fit for the big Canton LS (I used smaller Geithain ME150 before) in big rooms and decided that it is time for some new challenges. By that I tested following amplifiers:
1. T+A PA 3000 HV (that amplifier is currently worshipped in Germany)
2. Devialet 240
3. DartZeel CTH 8550 (this I didn't test at home but with something comparable)
4. Accuphase E-600
So, my test started with the T+A 3000, as the magazines where able to create a "must have" feeling into my brain. Asking a dealer if I can hear it, agreed and started. I tested it first at the dealers studio together with this new T+A CD/Streamer "I don't know what else this source can do" MP 3000 HV at some T+A Speakers. First impressions where great. Deep, deep bass a central stage for the voice, very clear and singled instruments both, at low but also higher loudness. I decided that I need the amp at home. Said and done, I put the lovely little amp with a weight of 45 kg (so 99 pounds) into the car (my back is telling me that still today) and tested it at my home system.
Connected and listened: Not so impressive as at the dealers room, impressive bass but what I missed was a clear difference to my little Brinkmann especially at low loudness levels. For sure the T+A keeps the clearness at higher loudness levels much better than the Brinkmann can, but is this what I was searching for? In addition, I was also not satisfied by the remote control sensibility and the loudness calibration adjustment (small issues, I know). I really did not have the feeling of a "big step forward to Fidelity". With that I mean a certain warmth in the voice but also (and very important) a real "stage" in front of me and a new feeling if you listen to old, known music.
Next test: DarTZeel at dealers home: Listened and stopped after 3 of my reference CDs! Why? No clearness, no stage in front of me much worse than the Devialet, which I tested at the same day.
Devialet 240: First test at dealers studio. Immediately impressed of the power, of the stage in front of me. Doesn't matter what loudness, everything was stable. No mixing of instruments very fine voices (but I also recognized that the Devialet does not have any mercy with not perfect recorded music). Yes, that was something I had to test at home. So I did and connected it to my systems.
It did the same than the T+A did. Well done, an improvement to the Brinkmann but is it worth more than double price (12.500€ to 5.500€)?
Hmm :skeptical:But wait, :woot:I was in the lucky situation that my dealer offered me a test with the new ACCUPHASE E-600, after I came back to him with the T+A and explaining my impressions. His only answer to my feedback was: "If you don't have problems with the colour "gold" I believe that I have something which comes much closer to your search". So he showed me the amp (I was not impressed at all, as I never heard something from the Accuphase portfolio and the look of the Accuphase is not as impressive as my Brinkmann
or as the Devialet/T+A amps are.
I decided to give him a chance (thinking right now how often I thought this to in a bar.....o.k, forget this :roflmao
and carried the E-600 home (without listening in the studio).
That means: Brinkmann vs. Devialet vs. Accuphase!
And than I got it: A grey fog disappeard from the music and if I said "heavy, heavy bass" before......forget it. The Accuphase moves a thunderous bass wave at all loudness levels into my stomach (had to replace my Loudspeakers! to manage the appearing drone which I was finally able to manage) but at the same time centered the voice much more clear by giving any voice the missing "warmth" I was looking for.
The voice of Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) is getting so realistic and deep, that is something I have never heard before.
Sufjan Stevens "Age of Adz" brings tears to my eyes. This CD, which is my personal reference CD within the last 3 years, appears new, different, much more vital than it already has been.
I also have a CD with best of Netrebko and I never had the impression that her voice was fidelity at my home system, now it is!
So what to say than: The Accuphase E-600 is so much better to me than the other systems I tested, that I would rate it at least 30% higher. UNBELIEVABLE and WONDERFUL.
I hope that some of you will have the chance listen to it and I would appreciate some further test results from you folks.
Have great days
