Abbey Road

My first thought is to buy the Vinyl only, but then being an AudioJunkie, nice to have alternate source that includes the silver discs-

What is everyone’s take when these type of offerings come around, vinyl and silver or black only?

Nice! Looking forward to your feedback. How’s your UK pressing? Quiet?

Hi Mike

wonderful quiet pressing. it's Optimal pressed in Germany. Probably the best pressing plant on planet earth.

the QRP is a little soft on top - the Optimal is just a little reserved, especially compared to the original pressings. You are right, it is nice to have the Beatles singing right in the middle of the speakers .
The sound stage is larger with the new reissue and you can hear a little more detail in the mix. It's quite laid back on most of the tracks, except Here Comes The Sun, which seems faster.

Overall the new remaster and original masters are more similar than different - certainly so much better than the turgid 2012 vinyl remasters.

well done Giles and Miles with his half speed mastered vinyl.

We will be setting up a system at Embassy Suites Dallas Park Central, Carrollton room for the Beatles Abbey Road Party. If you are in this area we would love to have you.

We will have the Gryphon Mephisto, Gryphon Zena Preamp, VPI HW40 turntable with Transfiguration Proteus D cart, Luxman EQ500 phonostage, MSB Premier DAC + MSB REF transport and Magico M3’s. I also brought in my Studer 810 Reel to Reel for a special treat for folks.

Of course I will be there. I have rented a U-haul truck to carry off the Magico M3’s door prize!
You just need to rig it so that I win them ok?

listening to the Abbey Road remaster 24/96 file on Quboz i'm blown away. it is quite a different mix, besides things in different places the musical parts are bigger and bolder......just based on my memory.

have to drag out my vinyl and tape references to put finer points on the compare. which later i will do. for now i'm just letting it wash over me and loving every minute of it. the MSB Select II + big rig is delivering the goods.

I’ll keep my comments on hold until the big shindig is over tomorrow but I have to say high honors go to disc 2 and 3 with the demos and outtakes.

agree that the out-takes are special......and fresh sounding. i'm almost though the second disc with the third yet to come.

the original tunes are a more complicated equation since you are messing with icons, and we all have our own feelings about that....beyond just the sound itself.

listened on the main system last night and i absolutely agree and am blown away as well... all i can say is brilliant! besides bigger and bolder, the vocals are moved back a little, thereby, highlighting the musicianship.

btw: just love octopus's garden ...hearing a lot of texas two-step in there.

We had a GREAT time! Thank you to everyone who showed up.
