Stunning Mike !
I could spot one of the first Verdier La Platine.
The vintage Mc rack is freaking awesome !

This MUST be in Toronto. i have seen that system before on the Toronto Audio Club website in a member feature.

Mc tube amp work great both for audio as well as in house heating in the Canadian winter.

That is quite an impressive system. Had not seen this thread until Mark told me about it. I bet it is heavenly sounding.

Mike, What did you learn?

Auto formers giveth, auto formers taketh away.

The 3500 is an incredible sounding amp. It sounds nothing like any other Mc amp. There is no veil at all. Even the owner says repeatedly, "when I put on the 3500, it's like a veil has been removed."

The 2KW's sound is HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE. There is no substitute for power. None.

The 2301's have an amazing "organic" sound. They give up the MASSIVE/BIGNESS/HUGENESS soundstage to the 2KW's, but they gain major points in the organic part.

If you want Mc and you have a big room, go 2KW's. If you don't, go 2301's. That's my take away.

It was really interesting to here the 2KW's again after owning and listening to my Pass XS amps for almost a year.

Mike.... The 127dB signal to noise ratio of the MC2KW's is going to make it stand out from the crowd.

Mike,

I had the 2301 from december 2009 to june 2013. I loved them.
In june 2012, I wanted to try Shindo and received my CCQs.
I kept the 2301's to "save" the CCQs but on both PMC EB1i and Wilson WP8, the CCQs were head and shoulders above the 2301's : there was more life in music. More speed and clarity. And bass was much better : cleaner, tighter, deeper.
I decided to sell the beautifu 2301's.

A few months after, I discovered the stunning MC225.
The bass of the 225 may be of lower extension ON SOME SPEAKERS than the one of the 2301's. But on speakers above 92dB of sensibility, the 225 will be better on all the spectrum. I tried it on the Wilsons WP8 and it was just a night and day experience compared to the 2301 on those speakers.
The music sounds much more alive and beautiful with the 225. And it is also more dynamic. The only thing is that the 225 starts to sing at a higher volume than the 2301's, at around 75dB.
While the 2301's weight and presence is felt from the first dB.
For a bass lover / addict, or with tough loads, I would rather use a pair of 1.2K in the bass and the 225 for mids and treble than the 2301's. For a very similar budget.

Re: A night with McIntosh & Friends

You seem to really LOVE vinyl rigs. My pal in the NLs has 4 of 'em, with 2 being airbearing compressor driver (one is Fossell and cant recall the rest).

See him speak a bit about it here in describing his KILLER speakers:
La Assoluta - Page 15

Oh, and he is no digital hater either, juggling a Trinity Dac, a Golden Gate Lampi and a Zanden spinner Dac in his 2 world class sytems. KONDO power.

Re: A night with McIntosh
