I am a happy owner of a Bottlehead Foreplay II Lineout Pre. It has many upgrades and to my ears, is the purest sounding Pre that I have owned. It is has a very black sound floor and is set up for 6FQ7's as opposed to 12AU7's. I find the 6FQ7's to be more spacious.

The Bottlehead kits are well designed and sound stellar stock, with some simple tweaks get real nice!

Hi Jim,

I've spent a lot of time on the Bottlehead website looking at all the cool tube gear thinking about wiring up my own kit. I bet their gear sounds great.
 
I was going to build one a few years back but ended up building a Hagerman Clarinet.
 
I'm getting into my second Foreplay. The first an FPI was tweaked with an IEC socket, Hovland coupling caps and a Hovland PS cap. The good upgrade though was a pair of Goldpoint volume controls.


Since a friend has an early Response Audio Purity One, the test mule, and it is very similar, when he upgraded to Clarity caps, I installed the AmpOhm coupling and bypass caps in the Foreplay. Nice.

That unit is now with Tom Clone (he has copied most of my best gear) and he brought me an FPII with Auricaps, C4S and some other little items but it does not work, yet. One of the C4S wires is not connected. I need to go through it and see whether I like the Hovlands or the Auricaps.
